What an exciting night at the Stadium last night…the crowd was electric and I’m happy to say I was part of it. Nice show by Melky …Arod gets the first rbi …Wang, Joba & Mariano doing what they do best …it was terrific. The fans were as pumped up as Joba’s fist punch.
The kids got a great hand from the crowd …you, Joba, Ian and Shelley. I know you don’t want to talk much baseball on here but please tell us how you felt for your FIRST Opening Day …especially at the FINAL Opening Day at THE Yankee Stadium. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this momentous occasion (I think we all would..).
Good luck to Moose tonight and to you, Ian and Andy …I hope you all get first game wins ….I’ll be there on Sunday …
It’s cool that you take pics so you can have memories of all the places you’ve been. Make sure to take some pics at the stadium this year…I’m still kinda depressed about that…but I hear the new stadium is supposed to be really nice too.
Good luck tomorrow night! We’ll all be rooting for you 😀
Its great that you take pictures to build memories on the places you’ve been, things you’ve seen and people you’ve met. I am the same way. Two years back, I sat in the second row and got some insane action pics using my pro camera. I will never forget that night. Blew many of the pictures up (used to work for Fuji Film) and decorated my basement with them.
Nice picture Phil. I love the ocean, so images like that make me miss living near the beach! Anyways, that game last night was something else, huh? I couldn’t be happier for Melky after the game he had. I can’t wait to see you pitch 🙂 Take care!
Today’s headlines read like an opening day on Broadway. Funny to hear all the naysayers change their tune after last night’s game to be supportive of the Yanks. It was an electric night and we’re all hoping…just one of many.
Afterall…we don’t just want Joba to Rule…we want the Yanks to do it as well.
Sorry if I got you in trouble opening day when I yelled that your blog was sweet. I know you were concentrating with your coach and Ian. Just wishing you good luck and fortune.
Ah. That’s the life! That was a great game last night. Loved the introductions and the response. The crowd chanting your name was nice. Great to see you guys doing so well for the last opening day at The Stadium.
DUDE I can’t wait for your start fon Thursday!!!! Hope you kick butt!!! Have some fun out there and tell Joba nice work and excellent job getting the crowd pumped!!! YANKEES ’08
last nights game was freakin sweet…helluva game so pumped that baseballs back in the bronx. pumped to see ya pitch on thurs phil i will be out there in bleachers 41 cheering you on all night good luck to ya buddy!!! one question though how u feel about this stuff about Joba showing up Frank Thomas??? Personally i feel Joba’s just a competitor and gets pumped, no problems with it.
I definitely saw Ian out there celebrating the win (he was in the foreground practicing a Joba-like fist pump over and over – was he getting ready for his mound appearance?), but wasn’t able to see you…. did you get a chance to get out on the field to celebrate with the rest of the guys, or did you save the celebrating for the clubhouse? Looking forward to seeing you out there, good luck!!!
I HAVE TO SAY, THIS IS MY FIRST POST HERE AND I THINK THIS IS A REALLY COOL IDEA FOR PHIL TO LET US (YANKEES FANS) GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM AND THE TEAM. THANKS PHIL FOR TAKING THE TIME!!!
I know I’m just one fan in a sea of millions; but I’d just like to let you know that I’ll be wearing your old number #65 tomorrow in honor of your first start. Also, I could think of nothing better to have on my birthday than a Yankees game with your first start (and hopefully — and if I may be so bold to say, likely — your first win) of the season. God bless, sir.
Cool picture..don’t have any pictures of South Beach huh =-) I was at last nights game…tough loss. Moose got hit around a little…but other than Wells HR…the others were bloopers and bleeders…AND talk about COLD weather….I was freezing! I will be there tonight. Good Luck Phil! LET’S GO PHIL FRANCHISE!
Good luck tonight Phil. Keep it down and hard. Please stop this consecutive game hitting streak against the Yankees that Alex Rios has. I am tired of hearing about it!
Tough loss last night but you will pick us up again …..I can’t wait to see you pitch tonight. Keep as warm as possible but put the freeze on the birdies bats….
Nice dinger by Alex too …he’s only just begun …watch out American League…..
Good luck Phil. I would give you some tips, but since I am not a major league pitcher I will refrain from doing so. Be rooting for you though anyway. Just tell the guys to score some runs here tonight finally!!! How’d you like the cheers for you on Opening Day, thought that was outstanding, one of the loudest ovations of any of the players!
Good luck tonight. I’m watching you pitch right now…sweet strike out of Frank Thomas…I guess we should thank you for him getting thrown out too! Go get em!!
Great Game tonight. It’s a shame you didn’t get the win. But with plenty of season left I’m sure you’ll end up with atleast 15-16 this year. Maybe next game you’ll get some more run support.. And you get Player Of the Game honors.. Congrats
way to go, phil!!! you were great tonight. altho not official “win” in public opinion you did! congrats on player of the game-pretty cool for your first start in the historical stadium. well deserved!! enjoy this and looking forward to the next hughes outing. (went to modells yesterday and they still had your number 65!!)
You pitched a terrific game tonight. Too bad you didn’t get the W. But a win is a win. I’m sure the conditions were very difficult to pitch in. And you looked great, also I know you won’t comment on it. But the ump was awful! His zone moved depending on who was pitching. I think that Thomas scared him too.
Congrats Phil on a job well done……great pitching tonight. Sorry you didn’t get the win but tell Joba he owes you one for his win since you did all that terrific pitching to get it to him… :o). If this is an example of what we can expect from you ….the Yanks are one lucky team.
Lots of luck to “Ike” tomorrow….hope he does as well as you did tonight.
I’m sooooooooooo happy the boys are back in town and baseball has finally arrived again ….
I actually went to the game last night and now I wish I had tickets for tonight’s game. (or opening day for that matter! haha) I can’t wait to see the good things that lie ahead of you for with this team and in NY…..once again, awesome job tonight!!!!!!
Great outing today! You should have picked up the win, but the Yankees have you on a strict innings limit it seems. If you pitch that way..I am sure you will be picking up plenty of wins this season. Keep it up.
Phil great job tonight. I texted people that you were gonna throw a perfect game after you were perfect through three, so you can blame me for jinxing you. Right after I did it Eckstein got that cheap bloop.
YOU PITCHED AWESOME ,I WAS SO HAPPY , YOU PITCHED BETTER THEN THE LINE SCORE SAYS, I THOUGHT THE UMPIRE HAD A SMALL STRIKE ZONE , I THOUGHT AROD SHOULD HAVE MADE THAT PLAY,AND THEN CANO MISPLAYED THE THROW FROM MOLINA, ALL THIS MADE YOUR PITCH COUNT GO UP..I HOPE IKE HAS A GREAT DAY TOMMORROW ,,,WELL REWIND IS ON ,HOPEFULLY YOU CATCH IT…THANKS FOR THE GREAT GAME YOU ARE SO IMPORTANT..
Excellent job tonight Phil. Nice command and way to get ahead in counts. Those 2 runs you gave up were tough for me to swallow. A bloop double leads to one and an infield single leads to another. I was really hoping the boys could have pushed across a 3rd run there in the 6th to get you in line for the W.
Hey Phil…I just made it back to the hotel, I traveled all the way from Hamilton, Ontario to see this special series. First of all, I’d like to thank Major League Baseball for allowing the country of Canada to be part of such a historic event in MLB history by letting the Toronto Blue Jays take part in the opening series in the final season of “the house that Ruth built”. Anyways, i went to this game sporting my Pat Hentgen 1996 Canada Day alternate uniform (every Canada Day the Jays wear an alternate Canada Day jersey, and rather than the last name, “CANADA” appears on the back of everyones uniform) so if that bright red jersey in the crowd stood out to you or anyone else reading this, that was me alright!
Well, anyways…It was amazing Phil to see you with your cap off while they sand “Oh Canada”….a few tears dropped from my eye….a few more dropped when the Jays lost (especially because you didn’t get the win Phil!). Good luck the rest of the way! 159 more to go!
Good goin’ Phil! You make pitchin’ look so effortless…you kept Toronto on the edge and the Yanks in the game. It is hard to believe you are 21 as you appear so in control and in the zone. Keep the faith and please smile when you are being interviewed – you have a gorgeous smile. Congrats to you and the Yanks!
LK
im glad i made it out to the bronx tonight. it was great to see you pitch and get off to a really strong start this year… good luck in future and for continued success!
Good first outing … I can’t believe your only a year older than me hahaa… That’s sick… Kid’s 21 and pitching for the New York Yankees. Life doesn’t get any better kidddddddddd.
GREAT JOB TONITE PHIL! your curve was lookin phenomenal, though i’m sorry you couldn’t pick up the W. still, great way to kick off the season, and thanks for the great effort.
I was at the game last night…Great Job Phil Franchise! Would have enjoyed it more if you could have picked up the “W”. The offense will come through more often than not and you will pick up your share of “W’s”. LET’S GO PHIL FRANCHISE!
watched every second of the game on the tube phil..
you have a poise way beyond your 21 years and it is quite clear that you are going to have a terrific season!
VERY impressive, Phil. Congrats on a great game! I know you personally didn’t get the W, but If you keep pitching like that – your win total this year is going to surpass your age. Again, very well done!
Great game last night Phil. It was great seeing you pitch at the stadium. The crowd was definitely keyed in on every pitch. Even sitting in right field near the foul pole, we could easily see that you had the curve ball working and the fastball zipping.
DId you think the Frank Thomas strike was that close to being a ball? We were pretty amazed that he would protest so much to the point of getting tossed out.
I would just like to thanks mm7ny for posting the contest to see Phil pitch last night. My sister won and was nice enough to let me tag along. The tickets were great, Main box 303 down right field! Hughes, Joba, and the rest of the bullpen delivered, and the offense scratched it out. Thanks again it was a great night in the stadium!
Love that you got Frank Thomas thrown out last night. Between you and Joba, you own that guy! Great outing. Fired up for Ian’s go tonight. Hope the weather improves.
Your overhand curve ball was awesome! It’s great when you use it early in the count when hitters aren’t expecting it and then put them away with a fast ball on the corners. Great Start!
Great job Phil. I watched you from behind the dugoug last night. It was my first game of the season and I couldn’t imagine a better one. Hope to see a lot more of you in person this season. Funny that everyone was worried about the defense, and assumed the offense would be great, but so far the pitching has shined. I’m sure the offense will catch up. Anyway, see you again soon!
opening day was so awesome!! Phil you are my favorite but my other favorite player melky was great i was so happy for him! robinson cano is one of my favorites also…
Nice pic Phil. How was the atmosphere at the Stadium yesterday? Pretty awesome I imagine.
Why is there a pirate ship outside your hotel?
Yeah, I bet you wish you were there today. Thinking warm doesn’t really work.
Who fell in the water? And why is there a ship out there?
Let’s guess what it’s job is…
Medical Equipment for the old men at Shea?

Congratulations on a great game Phil. I hope you’re ready for all the attention you’re going to drum up. Looking forward to a great year!
Man, how do you deal with an ump that’s all over the place like that?!?!
Congrats Phil on a job well done……great pitching tonight. Sorry you didn’t get the win but tell Joba he owes you one for his win since you did all that terrific pitching to get it to him… :o). If this is an example of what we can expect from you ….the Yanks are one lucky team.

LK
excellent first start of the season. poor ian looked really cold as he watched on tonight. hope he can duplicate what you did against the rays!
Very good job today, Phil!
Joba owes you a dinner for handing him the W tonight. Seriously, if you pitch like this, you (and the Yankees) will have no shortage of wins.
im glad i made it out to the bronx tonight. it was great to see you pitch and get off to a really strong start this year… good luck in future and for continued success!
Good first outing … I can’t believe your only a year older than me hahaa… That’s sick… Kid’s 21 and pitching for the New York Yankees. Life doesn’t get any better kidddddddddd.
Hey I just read that The Big Hurt Frank Thomas labeled the the duo of Mo and Joba…
MoJo…how cool is that…
The Yankee MoJo….I love it.
MoJo Rules!
GREAT JOB TONITE PHIL! your curve was lookin phenomenal, though i’m sorry you couldn’t pick up the W. still, great way to kick off the season, and thanks for the great effort.
very very impressive Phil. Do you like the Huuuuuuuuuuuuuughhhhhhhes from the fans? I guess that’s going to be your call.
I’m glad you’re in our starting rotation this year, awesome start!
Great start last night!
last night was the night we were all waiting for and we weren’t disappointed. Great job, Phil.
Phil, I was at the game last night and you looked great. Hell of a start. We are going to need plenty more of those from you.
Nice job
Phil,
Great start yesterday. You pitched 58 strikes and only one walk, that’s the way to start the season.
Love that you got Frank Thomas thrown out last night. Between you and Joba, you own that guy! Great outing. Fired up for Ian’s go tonight. Hope the weather improves.
Blue Jays are really good.
Your overhand curve ball was awesome! It’s great when you use it early in the count when hitters aren’t expecting it and then put them away with a fast ball on the corners. Great Start!
Phil
Nice start last night. What a way to start the season.
Dont worry the Offense will come around and get you wins
You deserved it.
Kudos!!!!!!!!
How in the HADES did you get that picture of me parasailing?
Quit stalking me. It’s not like I was in Florida hoping to run into some pinstripes or anything. Sheesh.
