The best taco dip….ever!!

cream cheese+no bean chili+salsa+shredded chedder cheese layered in a baking pan. Bake for about 20-30 minutes until the cheese is melted (at 350). Serve with chips…yummy!

Always a huge hit!!

sorry for the length but this goes over big every time I make it and its pretty simple: catch – you need a crock pot

Buffalo Chicken Dip

INGREDIENTS
2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Blue Cheese dressing
3/4 cup pepper sauce, such as Franks® Red Hot®
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS
Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated through. Stir in cream cheese and blue cheese dressing. Cook, stirring until well blended and warm. Mix in half of the shredded cheese, and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and cook on Low setting until hot and bubbly. Serve with celery sticks and crackers.

The Good Left Undone is an amazing song.

Any other Yankees going to the party?

30 01 2008

order a bunch of wings and fries from hooters. if that’s not enough than just add some nachos and chips w/ it

30 01 2008
xsandman42x

S&M is definitely a far better album than people give it credit for. Glad to see you appreciate Metallica so much and glad to see that you are still a Yankee.

30 01 2008
bethnyyfan

Get some good shredded Monterey Jack and throw it over nacho chips and nuke. Serve with chopped onions, chopped jalepenos, and salsa. This way everyone can put on what toppings they like while still getting hot cheesy chips.

Go Giants!!

Glad you’re still a Yankee Phil…looking forward to pitchers and catchers (2 weeks!)

Phil

In Honor of the Super Bowl you should watch this:

I can’t believe you were not even born yet. It’s the super Bowl shuffle

Thanks

Tostitos spinich dip is really good!! as is Tgi Fridays. You could make a salsa.

30 01 2008

Ah the super Bowl shuffle, I remember that!! I lived in Chicago till I was 12! My brother even has the album!

You could also make brusetta (or buy it from the appy dept. )with small pieces of bread.

30 01 2008
rebeccaoptimist

Taramosalata, if there are any Greek food stores nearby–it’s the best dip I’ve ever had.

You can’t go wrong with the old standbys of nachos and cheese, or warm chex mix (with some honey).

Also, if you’re the seafood type, try shrimp cocktail or even a sushi platter. My brother had sushi as part of the hors d’oerves (I spelt that wrong, I’m sure) at his wedding and it was by far the most popular table.

30 01 2008

the Super Bowl definitely calls for a hero, some nachos, and pigs in a blanket.

30 01 2008
kj1313

Metallica’s S&M is pretty awesome. I still watch the concert dvd from time to time. Right now I’m really into heavier stuff like All that Remains & Trivium.

And for the Superbowl, It’s all about the wings & nachos.

30 01 2008
brettm25

Wings, nachos, and pigs in a blanket are all a must. Dips are also a great idea.

Great EASY super bowl fixins-

Velveta block-o-cheese cut into small cubes, 1/2 to 1 lb browned hamburger meat, small to medium jar of salsa (depending on tastes)

Throw all of that into a slow cooker. That stuff is the bomb! Easy and fast to make and serves quite a few people.

30 01 2008
littlekittynyc

You need a hot chick like me to snack on during half time. Football sucks, anyway. BASEBALL is the best! So are hot pitchers!!

30 01 2008
Mike

Stick to earlier Rise Against – The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute are must haves. I’m you like them, you’ll like Strike Anywhere.

30 01 2008
riverwolf2005

Another good finger food is pickle roll ups

Take small packets of the thin sliced lunch meat style corn beef (Carl Budding works best)
Cover 1 side with light coating of cream cheese, add a dill spear (The ones in the jar already quartered) and roll them up. Dut in 1/2 horizontally. Everyone I have ever seen eat them LOVE them.

30 01 2008
robfromny

Yeah Phil i have one suggestion for snacks at the party…. Jameson Irish Whiskey. lol

1. Don’t Don-Super Junior
2. Come On Girl-Taio Cruz
3. Try It Again-The Hives
4. Far Away-Ingrid Michaelson
5. Generator-The Holloways

If you end up making wings, try baking instead of frying, they come out tasting better. Good luck with your party!

30 01 2008
throwstrikes

Sorry to be such a mom but 10 -12 guys requires more than nachos especially if adult beverages will be involved.

Subs, chili or baked ziti. They are easy to reheat and everyone can help themselves when they want to eat.

30 01 2008

Deviled Eggs aren’t a real Super Bowl item but you can never go wrong with ’em!

Also, I gotta say Back To Hell is my favorite Alkaline Trio song.

Hey Phil …

Invite me over and I’ll cook Lasagna and make an antipasto platter….:o). I’m not a big football fan but I’m rooting for the Giants …naturally !!! I only have one team in my heart …The Yankees. I went to an Autograph Show this weekend and met one of my all time favs…Paul O’Neill. He not only signed his book for me ..but..when he saw I was wearing his Jersey he called me back and signed it …for FREE !!! That should have cost $110 bucks. I guess it will cost me because I can’t wear it anymore ..I’m framing it. Well worth it. Paul was such a nice guy …I was thrilled to finally get to meet him.

Maybe I’ll get to meet you someday too Phil …sure hope so …

Enjoy the game ….GOOOOOOOO GIANTS !!!!

Go Yankees 2008 !!!!

You never go wrong w/ pizzas, wings, and home-made Chex Mix for a Super Bowl party.

30 01 2008
jvmillion83

Phil, can’t wait for the upcoming season. Cook up some miniburgers with the works. Can’t go wrong with that.

Just commenting on your selection of “Until It Sleeps”, what do you think of the Metallica Load album. One of the underrated albums out there. Go check it out if you never heard it.

30 01 2008

my household likes the chili.

I prefer the nachos.

30 01 2008
riverwolf2005

Phil, obviously you read the responses so I would like to ask you something.

Next time you see Jeter, if you think of it, ask him if he rememberes the guy back in 1995 when he was with the Columbus Clippers who gave him a ride when all the other players left. I doubt it, but I was wondering if he remembers that at all. I was trying for an autograph and he asked if I had a car since his ride left.

That guy was me. Funny thing is, I never did get that autograph, LOL. He was a lot like you in the day. IF you caught him at one of the many places he used to leave from he was really fan friendly.

Superbowl party sounds fun!!
Rooting for the Giants I take it!! haha!
For the party you should make puppy chow
you know with the powdered sugar, peanut butter, chocolate!
I had it at a New Years party and I loved it!!

Try to check out the newest Good Eats episode on buffalo wings, it’ll probably be on at 9:30 if you’re in CA

regardless you should watch any and every episode of Good Eats

30 01 2008
bernbabybern

Easiest spicy dip ever. It’s pretty damn fattening though, so don’t say I didn’t warn you when spring training starts and Eiland says you need to drop 10 pounds …

2 bricks hot pepper jack cheese
2 packs cream cheese
2 boxes frozen microwaveable creamed spinach

Soften up the spinach in the microwave, chop up the cheeses, throw it all in a big bowl and toss in the microwave (stirring occasionally) ’til it’s melted. Throw it in a crock pot on low to keep it melted during the party. Serve it with scoop-style tortilla chips.

You coulda made this another contest. Best recipe gets another one of those baseballs. Judging from the traffic on the blog, you’d get more recipes than the frickin’ Pillsbury bake-off.

Oh, and I’ve been blogging for a while now (link below), and I’ve NEVER had a hot chick leave a comment offering to let me snack on her during halftime. So, you’re off to a good start. I think. Maybe.

(Shameless plug alert: Check out IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS … caught. You’ll probably find something to make you laugh.)

PS: Download “…And Out Come the Wolves” by Rancid.

Any Superbowl party unless you want to actually cook and be in the kitchen rather than in front of the TV watching involves a very simple plan.

1. Get in car
2. Drive toCostco and purchase the following
3. Spinach Dip
4. Round French bread (take out the inside and use it as dippers) and put dip in the bread
5. Salsa and Guac and large bag of tortilla chips
6. Shrimp cocktail plate
7. Phillips Crab dip
8. Kirkland Pizza – any variety will do
9. BBQ wings plate
10. Get in car
11. Drive home

30 01 2008

One of my favorite snack combinations is nacho cheese Doritos, with pepperoni on top….tastes like mini pizzas!

I also like to serve baked restaurant style tortilla chips with salsa…I prefer Pace brand but you use whatever you like best. 😉

P,
I keep meaning to bring this up on here – but have u heard the Metallica song “I Disappear”? You prolly have, but if you haven’t… i put it up here:

http://download.yousendit.com/7913499A5687E400

It was possibly their last greatest song recorded. Some overlook it, since it was on a soundtrack & all….

we’ll see what their new record sounds like this summer. *Crosses fingers*

Phil, just eat anything that will keep you out of the Mitchell Report, and any Jose Canseco Book. Seriously though, Tostitos with mild salsa, some brews, maybe a couple jagerbomz are good with Football. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING would taste good with a Giants win. I don’t know what I want more, a Patriots loss, or a Giants win.

31 01 2008
fanoftheempire

You can never go wrong with wings with ranch dip. Oh, and the new Pringles Select BBQ are awesome…a couple of bags of those will go over well with the guests.

31 01 2008
skba91

Phil,

If you are in New York City for the Superbowl, or for any football game afterwards, you have to order/go to Blondies. Best wings in NYC by far. Mild and Smokin’ are safe choices, but if you’re feeling brave, go for Ouch, the spiciest wings I’ve ever had.

31 01 2008
thebod

You should make a cake then eat it, too. A cupcake will do if you don’t want a cake.

31 01 2008
gcohen9782

Phil Hughes watches Good Eats, that’s awesome. Seriously Phil, I can’t tell you how cool this is, having a homegrown Yankee blogging and chatting it up with the fans.

Anyway, like everyone’s been saying, you gotta have wings, different types of chips – Doritos, regular potato chips, bbq chips, sour cream & onion chips, corn chips, (I could go on but I won’t), w/ dip and/or salsa, hero sandwiches, etc. Every kind of food that is terrible for you, you should have at a Super Bowl party.

Oh, and you gotta have beer, a lot of beer.

Phil what’s your favorite beer?

31 01 2008

Yo Phil, I wish my Bucs that play in that crown jewel across from Legends were rockin the superbowl this year. well theres always next year. Nah man you should go to Lee Roy Selmons and get a ton of barbecue. I was down from Jersey in october to see my bucs beat vince young and his boys and i went to lee roy selmons. that place is outstanding. cant get that in jerz.

31 01 2008
Kaitlin

Phil,

Wish I had more snack ideas for you, but you seem pretty covered. More importantly, you’re an Alton Brown fan? Are you sure you’re real? A pitcher for the Yankees, an Alt-Rock fan, a guy who watches Food Network: you must be an android…:P Good Eats is awesome. You cannot have too much Alton Brown. He even makes the American version of Iron Chef fun, although you simply can’t beat the old school dubbed version.

The Super Bowl is all about wings, subs, and other things pitchers probably shouldn’t be eating 😉 This does lead me to a question I’ve had for a while though, and forgive me if it’s silly:

You must have a somewhat strict diet, so what’s your favorite “cheat” food that you give yourself a pass on? Or what do you miss most now that you’ve gone pro and there are a lot more people watching what you eat?

evan’s blue does suck though..too whiny for me. how can you mix hard metal like metallica, and whiny pop-rock? come on man, our homegrown hero needs to be pumped up. as far as new music…check out the new soilwork CD. its freakin awesome.

Hey, Phil. What’s this with no Barbra Streisand? j/k I wouldn’t wish that on anyone(except for the Red Sox)!! You like hard stuff obviously. How about some Led Zeppelin? As for snacks, why not just buy the snack aisle out and you can have a little bit for everyone! Enjoy and Go Giants!

31 01 2008

Phil-

Homemade guacamole or any kind of layer dip. Can’t go wrong with that. Or you can make homemade buffalo chicken tenders.

You rooting for the Giants?

Good songs for the day – along the same lines you might want to check out:
1. Bleed American – Jimmy Eat World
2. Welcome to the Fold – Filter
3. Empty Walls – Serj Tankian
4. The Pretender – Foo Fighters

And for the party- try brats with gilled onions and peppers or tri-tip at 1/2 time. If you weren’t getting ready for the season in Tampa I would recommend the hidden gem of San Diego- carne asada fries.

Glad the Yanks kept you. Its going to be a great year.

31 01 2008

Buffalo Chicken dip is always a hit at our house during football season, but you can never go wrong with wings. Have like a wing bar where you have plain wings with diffent sauce containers so that each person can make the different types of wings they want. We are Steeler fans at our house so we are rooting HARD for the Giants! Glad to see Santana traded and you still in the pinstrips!! Can’t wait for spring training (especially since that means my little brothers HS baseball season will be starting soon).

I am making empanadas. They are absolutely delicious, always a big hit. Here is the recipe, enjoy!
Ingredients:

• 1 lb of ground beef
• ½ red or green pepper
• 1 onion
• 1 tomato
• olives
• garlic powder/onion powder
• vinegar
• 1 package of Sazon Goya
• 2 packages of Goya empanada patties
• vegetable oil

Directions:

• Thaw ground beef. (Leave empanadas patties out to thaw while doing this)

• Chop up green pepper, onions, tomatoes, and olives. Put them in frying pan with a little oil. Then after a couple of minutes add the ground beef. While meat starts to brown add garlic powder and/or onion powder, salt, pepper, vinegar and Sazon Goya. (Add as much or as little as you’d like)

• After meat and vegetables are cooked, drain the oil from the pan and let it cool down.

• Take empanada patty and put a spoonful of meat in the middle. Then fold over and seal them with a fork. (Do this for all the patties or until the meat runs out)

• When you’re almost done with the last step start heating about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a small pot until it comes to a boil.

• When oil is REALLY hot put empanadas in one at a time and fry them until they are light brown.

• After your done frying them, put them on plates with paper towels so it soaks up the extra grease

Phil, don’t know if you like seafood, but my fiancee is from Baltimore and she turned me on to the wonderful world of crab dip with melted cheddar on top. Dude, you’ll eat the whole bowl. It’s awesome.

You ask and I will answer. Some items that I like to have for the Super Bowl party:

*Crispy hot wings (if they are soggy, don’t bother)
*Pepperoni pizza
*Turkey sub with lettuce, tomato, cucumbers and shredded carrots (no dressing or mayo)
*Cool Ranch Doritos
*Soft pretzels from the Philly Pretzel Factory
*Chocolate Chip Cookies
*Cheese balls or Cheetos
*Kettle Chips

If you have a few of those, your party is well on its way. That’s how we do it in Scranton because, as you know, “There ain’t no party like a Scranton party.”

31 01 2008

Time to show my age a bit but I’m an 80s music guy. U2, The Clash, some of the one-hit wonders, stuff like that. My iPod has a very diverse array of tunes, probably because my wife and daughters also use it. There’s nothing quite like listening to U2 then to have it followed up by something from either Hanna Montana or the High School Musical soundtrack (I skip those).

Good Morning Phil and fans….

Speaking of songs ….have you decided on your game song?? Last I read you were thinking of For Whom the Bells Toll…any change on that one?

As much as I love Santana …great pitcher, competitive and lots of heart…I’m so happy you are still with us because I think you have the same qualities based on the small sample you have given us so far. Forget August …you just came back from injuries. Your September and then the playoffs were awesome …the guy that all the scouts said could be the Ace of the Yankees. Those qualities came shining through the end of last year (Of course you didn’t have those pesky little critters to contend with ala Joba ).

Just go out and do your thing and I have a feeling we will all be very happy fans come October.

Go Yankees 2008 !!!

Steam the asparugus in about an inch of boiling water in a large pan for about 3 or 4 minutes.

Drain asparagus.

Turn on your broiler.

Get out a cookie sheet and line it with tin foil.

Line up the asparagus like soldiers on the cookie sheet.

Melt a half stick of butter in the microwave.

Pour melted butter on top of the asparagus. Even distribution is crucial.

Lightly cover the asparagus with bread crumbs, regular or italian, your choice.

Broil the asparagus for about 3 minutes or until the bread crumbs become golden brown.

I am not kidding, bro, this is killer. I have never met anyone who didn’t love this. It can be served as an appetizer or side dish and is SUPER easy to make. If I can make it, anyone can.

Joba will LOVE it!

Music-wise, check out the Shins.

Other recommendations would be the Smashing Pumpkins. Their newest record, Zeitgeist, is hit or miss. Check it out.

Do you listen to Radiohead?

Hot Wings Phil, lots and lots of hot wings. Chips and other snack fare are good too.

Then again, maybe we should make some healthy suggestions. Wouldn’t want to cancel out the work you’re getting done!

I have another snack food. It will sound odd but trust me, it’s good.

Take between 1/2 stick to a full stick of butter and melt it in a pot. Fill the pot with Cheerios. That’s right Cheerios. Mix the Cheerios in with the butter while heating on a stove top. The Cheerios be slightly browned and may shrink a bit. Don’t overcook or you’ll just get a burnt, round mess. Take the mixture and put it into a serving bowl. Salt to taste and shake. My wife looked at me funny the first time I made this but once she tasted it, she didn’t think it was so funny.

Your taste in music is pretty killer…not the same as mine but still awesome. Please tell me you’re a Guitar Hero/Rock Band fan.

As far as Super Bowl food goes…definitely just get some appetizers from Friday’s; my personal favorite is the crispy green bean fries. If you want it to look like you actually tried…buy the frozen Friday’s appetizers at the grocery store.

Hey Phil, im new to your blog and i just wanted to say that I’m really happy that you didn’t get traded, but I’m sure you have heard that enough. I also wanted to let you know I ran into your Gf this past weekend and wow she is very good looking. Funny thing actually there were lots of people asking to take pictures with her and i was like who is this chick? Then I saw her up close and I told one of my buddies that I had seen her at spring training games last year and on your website. So I got the courage to talk to her and I asked her if she had a Bf, and she was like yes I do with a huge grin. I asked what he did for a living and she was like stuff. so I came right and asked he wouldn’t happen to be Phillip Hughes? She said way to call me out and started laughing, she asked that i didnt announce it aloud and I agreed seeing as she got bothered enough as it was.I asked her if I could ask her a question and said yep just as long as it has nothing to do with baseball, so i asked what you were like off the field, she said wow this is a tough one, he is just a good guy, very quiet unlike me as u can see! but honestly Phil is funny, smart, he likes to stay home, he is very responsible, he has a good head on his shoulders and i know no matter what he will be successfull. I asked if she thinks the two of you will get married…she said i thought u asked if u could ask a question??? now your getting pushy here and she was laughing of course, but to answer that who knows? we r very young and we have a lot to experience in life, so we will have to wait and see.

Just thought i would share that with u, u have a wonderful girl on your hands i hope you treat her well!!!

o and another thing she is so tiny arent 6’5???

i throw a lot of parties… Phil, let me teach you an awesome drink…this is guaranteed to get anyone drunk.

needed:
1 regular bottle of Orange Soda
1 Bottle of Burnette’s Orange Vodka
1 packet of Grape Kool Aid
1 Packet of cherry Kool Aid

Pour the orange soda out until it’s about at the top of the label or slightly below. Drop one packet of grape Koolaid and one Packet of Cherry Kool aid into the mix, and then pour in your Orange vodka up to the brim of the bottle.

shake, and put it in the freezer for 20-25 mins to get extra cold. Serve over Ice in a regular cup…..you will be amazed at the potency of the drink and the lack of vodka taste.

Got an easy recipe for you that you can prepare before hand for cheesey crab muffins: you need 1 package english muffins toasted, 1 can lump crab meat (drained), 1 jar kraft old english cheddar cheese, a softened stick of butter, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp garlic powder. Mix crab, cheese, butter and garlic till it’s well blended and mostly smooth, spread on toasted english muffin halves. Place on cookie sheet place in freezer overnight. cut halves into triangles (normally 6 pieces per half). Keep frozen till you are ready to cook them then pop them in the oven on a cookie tray at 400* for 10 mins. and they are good to go and they go quickly! My friends all love them, hopefully yours will too

Ok, if you are a fan of buffalo wings or hot sauce, this one is for you. Every time there is a get together with my friends, I am asked to make this. Its awesome and very easy and quick to make. If you do indeed make it Phil, let me know what you thought!

– One package of room temperature cream cheeze. Spread on the bottom of a 9×9 pan (I usuallky use an aluminium pan that you can throw away)
– Take a handful of Jack or Mozzarella cheese (whatever you prefer) and sprinkle it on top of the layer of cream cheese.
– Take three boiled chicken breasts, shread them and put in a bowl. Dump a bunch of Franks Red Hot (to taste) and mix it all around.
– Take some of the chicken and layer it on top of the shredded cheese
– Take a bottle of chunky bleu cheese dressing and pour some on top
– Do another layer of the shredded cheese, chicken and salad dressing. Finish it with a layer of the shredded cheese on the very top.
– Put it on the over until it melts. Serve with some Tostitos or other nacho chips. I usually dump more hot sauce between the layers because I am a fan of Franks Red Hot.

Hi Phil,

Almost every party I am invited to I requested to make my spinach dip. So super easy. First of all you Knorr’s Vegetable soup mix, Sour Cream, Spinach,Mayonnaise, Red Onion. I pretty much follow the recipe on the back of the package on the mix except I use red onion instead of green onions not a fan and I use water chestnut for the crunch. I bring a platter of fresh veggies along. i.e. asparagus, carrots, broccoli celery etc. I don’t know why but people just love it. What part of California are you from? My brother and his wife are from Malibu right by Pepperdine. They were caught up in the wildfires a few month ago they were evacuted no harm to there property or themselves. I hope your family was safe as well. Well I hope your Superbowl Party goes well. Go Giants I have root for the home team. I live 15 minutes away from Giants Stadium…..

Hey Phil, I’m very happy to see you’re still with the team. I know a ton of Yankee fans that feel the same way. I understand you’re a Halo player. I was wondering if you’d give your gamer tag. It would be great to see you in some multiplayer or dare I dream, on line co-op. Anyway, best of luck to you on the upcoming season!

For your SB party try this dip; its super easy and so good:

1 bag of shredded cheese
1 jar of salsa

Just throw it in the microwave and keep stirring until its all mixed. You won’t be disappointed.

OK here is an amazing recipe that my dad makes all the time and is really good but not to good for you it is sort of like stromboli but we call it garbage bread. Any ways here is the recipe.(soory it is sort of long)
Ingredients
1. 1 pizza dough
2. 1 pound of pepperoni
3. 1 pound oh ham
4. 1 pound of swiss cheese
how to make it:
First take the dough out and put in a bowl and let the dough rise for about 4 hours. Then after it rises roll it out. Then put a layer of pepperoni, ham, and the cheese (you could always change what ingredients you want to put in the middle to suit what you like) then roll it over and then roll the ends in. To make sure it stays shut use egg whites to hold it shut and then use eggs whites on the ends to make sure the ends stay in. Put it in the oven at about 350 degrees for about a half hour or untill it is golden brown.
This is really good if you dip it in spaghetti or marinaria sauce ( my dad has a recipe for that to but it is even more confusing and takes much longer than the garbage bread itself.) Believe me it is delicious! Everybody who has every tried it loves it, although the down side is that it isn’t very healthy but who cares it is the superbowl so you are allowed to have a few unhealthy things.
Phil if you would like to use my recipe and have any questions e-mail me at Watersportgurl11@aol.com. If you make it I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Phil;

First glad the Yankees did the right thing, I know when you are 29 the deal will have more then proved that fact! Question what is the relationship with the trio like?

Now food is my game! The best things and off from the norm wings, nice spicy italian sausage with peppers and sweet tangy BBQ sauce, chili-con queso with lime chips, miniature cheese burgers, being in BAltimore a nice crab dip with sliced baquettes, shrimp cocktail, and crab claw cocktail, for healthy choice hummus dip with pita chips, veggie sliders, simple crudite & dessert brownies, cookies
