View from my hotel room in Toronto last season…

Q&A wrapped up »
Nice! Where did you take that from (rooftop bar or something?)?
Nevermind, I didn’t get the first line of copy the first time, obviously. 🙂
thats a nice view… do you have a roommate on the road??
very nice, if it’s the park hyatt i have stayed there before. very nice.
can’t wait to see you back in toronto phil! go yanks!
Did you get to stay in the Rogers Centre hotel? I’ve always wanted to stay in one of the rooms with a view of the field.
We want to see a picture of a drunk jason giambi dressed as a used car salesman (i.e. brightly colored suit from the 70’s, open collar and gold chains ), sweating out of control and wearing a lamp shade as a hat while giving A-rod a noogy. Got a pic of that? If you did, that would make one hell of a baseball card.
thats a pretty sweet view. do you get a big hotel suite to yourself?
skba, you can see rogers centre in the picture so it’s not the sky hotel. and all the players get their own suites lol. the big league life, what a life.
Any suggestions on places to eat? I’m going up in July for the weekend. I got my tix and hotel booked. 😀 Just need airline tickets.
That is a crazy view!!!
What an awesome skyline, Would love to see Toronto one day.
yankeechick, lol i’m answering a question since i live in toronto. check out wayne gretzky’s restaraunt right near the rogers centre. see you in july.
What did you take the picture with?
I just found something called the disillery district. are any of the places any good?
matt, wayne’s sounds good. 🙂 Thanks
took this picture with my iphone
I’m from Toronto and the buildings give a great view especially around dusk.
wait, i think it might have been my regular camera, i dont remember
Iphone nice if it ever breaks and friend of mine fixes ipods and such.
what happened to the QUESTIONS & ANWSERS
Toronto, from what I remember was insanely CLEAN. It was scary how clean it was.
What type of camera do you use? Or, more important, do you even need a camera with an iphone?
Thanks for the picture. What floor was that on? I just got back from Boston and stayed in a pretty sweet hotel on the 12th floor and got some great harbor views out my window.
(I understand if you can’t tell us where your hotels on the road are, nobody wants pain in the butt fans on your doorstep–but that is a great view, I’m going to Toronto in ’09 and am looking for places to stay outside of “floor of friend’s flat”)
the Q&A will be published friday
I’m going to Canada tomorrow.
I’ve been to Toronto, didn’t like it to much. The skydome is pretty nice though.
What are you listening to on your Iphone?
Hope you got to enjoy the nightlife in Toronto…I hear it rocks.
Well im Jealous
Thank you for the nice picture!!
well, the view is great. I can’t wait for the new seson.
thats a sweet view i was in Toronto at a game once kool city of course they lost to no other than the Yankees (Woot Woot) but sweet view. Do you stay in a hotel or a house in florida?
You’re so random; I love it. 🙂 Toronto’s a great city, but I HATE Rogers Centre. Wang must *really* hate it, with the ground balls, but it’s an ugly uncomfortable place to watch a ball game. What do the players in general think of it?
Thats a hughes view!!
Very cool picture. Toronto looks nice, I’ve never been there but I want to.
Amazing view! And it is cool that you have an iphone!
cool pic brosef
Phil considering the clarity (or lack there of) of the latest pictures that you posted with your camera phone I’m going to guess that you took that photo with your regular camera. LOL!!!
I was just in Toronto last month to watch Rutgers play in the International Bowl. What a great city and the drive from Jersey wasn’t all that bad that my wife and I have considered catching a game up there this summer.
Wow that’s a really nice view. Thanks for the pic Phil!
damn i want an iphone, except i dont want to dish out the cash for it. plus it would cost be more to get it unlocked for canada.
Phil, what was your favorite thing or pet peeve about toronto when you visited in september?
I love the randomness of the picture!! Thanks Phil!
I think you can see the Steam Whistle brewery in that picture. Conveniently right next to the Rogers Centre. Lots of free samples!
Hi Phil. Just like chrislatt2 said…totally random pic…but I love it. I’ve been thinking about getting an iPhone…but on the fence. I’ve been asking people who have one. Do you like it?
Great pic, Phil!
Toronto is a great city – very clean, with lots of fun things to do. I don’t care about hockey, but the Hockey Hall of Fame is fantastic and so is cruising on Lake Ontario. I even went on a tour of the Sky Dome – pretty neat.
You stay at the Intercontinental when you come to town Phil?
Being from Toronto, I highly recommend Gretzky’s, it’s by far my favorite place downtown. There’s also a Hard Rock Cafe right on the corner of the steps up to The Skydome. It will always be the Skydome, forget Rogers lol.
Thanks for the cool pic Phil…I’m thinking of going to Toronto for some games this season. I’m also going to Tampa in April, Pittsburgh in June and Anaheim in August. I’ll be seeing plenty of games at home and some nice road trips …can’t wait.
If you took that pic with your iphone ..that’s a pretty good picture. Looks more like a camera shot tho’.
Looking forward to your first ST game ….but …more importantly ..to your first regular season game. Best of luck this year because any player as nice to the fans should only have great things happen for him..and…whatever great things happen to you in baseball …happen to us as Yankee fans….Go Phil !!!
Go Yankees 2008 !!!!
Is Gretzky’s a theme restaurant, Like Hard Rock? I dislike those kinds of restaurants, too touristy. I’d rather go to the local restaurants, get a real feel of the city.
That is a great picture! Toronto is a great city and you captured a nice view of it on your phone/camera whatever you think it was!
I’ve only been to Vancouver, Canada but after seeing the pic …I want to get to Toronto too…especially if the Yankees are playing there … :o)….
Go Yankees 2008 !!!
BTW ..Vancouver is breathtaking …the view of the mountains is spectacular…
I was in Toronto last Summer…pretty nice city, I agree that Gretzky’s is amazing (esp. the desserts : ) ). If you want a really good view, go to the top of the CN Tower–on a clear day you can see all the way to Niagra falls!
Good Luck in ’08 Phil!!
Very nice. I love Toronto, I get to just about every game you guys play up there. Though that’s mostly because it’s only a two and a half hour drive, compared to 7 to NYC (and it costs a lot less). Either way I love Rogers Centre, I never have to worry about a rain out that way!
This season will be interesting with those Jays fans. Last season was the most riled up I’d seen them in a while, couldn’t wear the number 13 on your back in there without getting some serious ribbing and criticism. Usually I’d say it’s all in good fun, but it got a little cruel and intense there in September. A few people in my section even got thrown out. I’d never seen that before at the Centre, at least not for a physical confrontation. Though I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make it a bit exciting. lol. (It’s just the walk back to the hotel that worried me, two females walking alone at night can be an easy target for some drunk asshat Jays fans.. )
Can’t wait to see you guys there this July, just wish I didn’t have to wait so long. Though I’m definitely coming down to the Bronx, seeing as though this season is my last chance to sit in the house that Ruth built. *sigh*
YEAHHHH!!!!!! WAY TO REPRESENT CANADA PHIL!!!! GO CANADA GO!!!!!
Toronto fans were brutal in 06, too. I’d never seen them so bad! They were nasty. Bernie’s home run and damon scoring on a balk helped. And Kyle striking out the side. We came from behind to win it that day, so it shut them up. But they were terrible.
What a nice view.
Thanks for sharing!!
Your a really good photographer!
I don’t remember them being quite as bad in 2006, but I guess it depends on the section. I must have just lucked out with who I sat by last summer, lol. But I personally haven’t had it as bad as I did in ’07. That was the first year I actually had Jays fans follow be back to the hotel taunting and yelling at me.
Gotta love those come from behind wins. It’s just just not quite as sweet when we’re ahead by 5 and all the Jays fans leave in the 8th, lol.
All the stalkers out there are now going to figure out which hotel that was taken from.
ahhh toronto, what a great city.last time i went there i saw yankees vs jays game. and right before warmups ended the power went out in the dome. some raccoon jumped into a power station and blew out the power for about an hour. great times
Living near the border, no thank you. Toronto’s a nice city until you get to know Canadians.
phil … you got mad photo skillz!! 🙂 awesome & original blog – thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Not sure if you saw this, but pretty cool pic of the “3 Amigos” on espn’s baseball page … the three of you pictured makes a much bigger “impact” after reading your blog
Here’s a screen shot in case they change out the pic by the time (if) you visit
Gretzky’s is very themed and popular with tourists. It’s a great place with awesome service and amazing food though.
But if you’re still not up to it there’s pretty much everything on Front Street and Blue Jay Way, etc. that you might want. From small bistro’s with patios to fine dining, same as all downtown core’s I suppose.
Just throwin out an idea. Im predicting twenty wins for Phil Hughes in 08. Maybe a game seven ALCS win over Josh Beckett and the Red Sox. All of us who have followed Phil through the minors know how talented this guy is.
20-6; 3.14 ERA; 212 K’s
Yankees 08 World Series Champs!
I haven’t been to Toronto in a while. I thought it was a very cool city when I was there. I remember going to Montreal in the late 80s and NY was an atrocious pit at the time. Montreal was so clean I thought it had been built the day before! Thanks for the pix Phil.
great radon pic of the day idea Phil…. I can’t wait to see you guys this summer in Pittsburgh!! 2.5 hours is as close as I am to a MLB stadium and I’m actually thinking of taking vacation so I can be in the city all 3 days when you guys are there (my husband [who is not a Yankee fan and therefore cannot understand] thinks I’m nuts)
Nice view! I think the picture is too clear to be from a camera phone, though. You might’ve just used a regular camera.
What time did the overnight guest leave?
was that yr guys’ last trip across the border of the season?
if so i saw you at one of the games.
but throwing with joba at BP.
it was cool
good luck this year!!
“Nice view! I think the picture is too clear to be from a camera phone, though. You might’ve just used a regular camera.”
The iPhone’s got a pretty decent camera, at least for close-up stuff. My friend has a bunch of pictures of his baby boy on his iPhone that he took with the built-in camera, and they look very nice.
Though for shots from far away, like this one, maybe it wouldn’t be so good. Dunno:-)
I’m a poor-ass grad student, so I can’t afford one:-)
cool picture phil! i had the chance to visit toronto when i was there for a competition with my highschool chorus back in 2000. it was a fun city! have you gotten a chance at all to go all the way up that tower (i think it’s the CN tower, right?) and walk on the glass floor? it’s a little freaky at first, but it’s got some awesome views. i’d love to go back again sometime =)
Nice picture. Really looking foward to the Q&A.
does the team go to jillian’s after baseball games in boston?
Next time take a picture of the mini bar.
toronto has a nice skyline, but nothing like home in nyc.
what’s your favorite “road” city?
Is that from the hotel right in Roger’s Centre?
no it’s not the hotel in rogers centre becase rogers centre is directly next to the CN tower.
If you look very closely at that picture of Toronto, you can see Arod banging a stripper.
Nice shot Phil! It must be very exciting (and exhausting) traveling to different places all the time. sang337 asked a good question though… what is your favorite road city?
I have been going to every Yankees Jays games for the past 8 years. Toronto is a very nice city, lots of places to party and a ton of great restaurants. Karaoke and guitar hero nights at the Fox and the Fiddle on Bloor are a blast!
nice hotel room.=] nice view.
Our home and native land!
True patriot love, in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Great pic…which is your favorite city to visit? and why?
