Bored…

11 03 2008

I didn’t expect Joba, Ian and I to get so many questions about the three of us this spring. We’ve done two tri-interviews the last couple days. The most recent being this afternoon with the YES network. We’ve been asked everything from Joba’s role this season to which nickname we like for the three of us (I think we decided on the three amigos). Check it out if you get a chance. I think it was pretty funny.

What else would you guys like to see out of the blog as the season approaches? I’ll continue with the contests and everything else but if there is something specific let me know. I’ve heard a couple people mention post-game write ups but I think our beat writers do a fantastic job with that. Take care.

maybe just like if u feel comfortable with it a summation about every start u make, what u think u did well, not so well, how u plan on improving, etc.
that would be great.

I really like when you talk about the music you’re listening to…mainly because you listen to the same stuff I do, lol. You have great taste in music.

11 03 2008
jessicayanks

i think you will probably talk about the games. and stuff like that. other than that i think you should post up anything random. so us fans can get to know you and not just as a pitcher. funny stories, random pic of the day. or songs of the day! which you havent posted in awhile. those are always good. the blog is great so write whatever!

i enjoy reading about your life outside of baseball alot… like your music and your interest in The Office (which actually made me start watching the show lol), all i can suggest is more of the same, keep up the good work phil

Tell Michael Kay the fans hate generation trey. I love the three Amigos!

Are you making the trip up to Virginia Tech next week or staying back in Fla?

11 03 2008

let us know the music you listened to prior to the game

I think it’s great, but its cool when you talk about your life off the field
Thanks Phil, hey what do you think about the yanks signing Billy Crystal?

Good Luck

How about your opinion on how you did and the way you plan to adjust if neccessary. The way you mentally prepare i.e. music, rituals, etc….Maybe an insight into a “kangaroo court” and who was fined and for what if appropriate for any young eyes that might see?

Thank You

People who read baseball players’ blogs are looking for something that you can’t get from the beat writers, who (as you say) do a great job of covering the game itself and that is an insider’s perspective. We’ve all read about event XYZ in the papers, but how do you as a player feel about it? Something like that.

and the three amigos is great

11 03 2008

I love the blog and am interested in whatever is on your mind…what about some things you love/hate or funny clubhouse stories or some lists of your favorite movies/tv shows/etc.?

11 03 2008
nyy4life

Hey Phil, I think most of us just enjoy you filling us in on some inside info. It will be tough as the season approaches for you to spend that much time on here but whatever updates you can give us would be great. By the way, you are having a helluva ST 2008. I think you are ready to start the season!

I wantto ask you a question about the other day. Was that a cheap shot Johnson took at Cervelli or just hard-nosed baseball?? What do you guys think about when somebody does that to your catcher??

11 03 2008
rdd121robroy

Anything you can tell us from off the field that we’d never know otherwise. What you do between starts. Who you ate dinner with and where after a day game. Who fears Shelley Duncan’s forearm the most. That kind of stuff. Keep it up Phil.

Bleed Pinstripes 13

hey phil! i watched you, Joba, and Ian on Mike’d Up on Sunday night. Great job with the interview. I’m sick of all the same dumb questions that these reporters ask you three. I can’t wait until you guys just go out there and show them how great you are and shut them up for once. I really think the blog is great! Its so great to see a professional athlete take the time out to interact with the fans. Continue to give us your insight on everything from baseball and beyond. Thanks for making us feel like a part of the team.

11 03 2008

I worded what I wrote wrong.

Tell Kay the fans hate the nickname Generation Trey, I like the three amigos better.

11 03 2008
dj0416

Maybe you could write about some of the things that happen behind the scenes in MLB that us typical fans would never even think about. Or you could get into what your favorite things are to do when you go on road trips in each particular city. Let us know what you’re up to when there’s an off day on the schedule. How about what you’re thinking before and after a game. Maybe let us know of any practical jokes that are played in the clubhouse? Who are they against, and what was it, and how did they take it? Just some ideas to help get you thinking. Thank you so much for doing this, though. You’re awesome, Phil! Go Yanks!!!!

11 03 2008
painttheblack23

3 amigos is cool.
I think we should get a conversation going on politics…afterall, sports and politics go hand in hand…and it’s topical and would spice things up a little…
Just a thought!

11 03 2008
robibz82

Hey phil….. fans definetly like to hear about what goes on off the field. We like to know how the clubhouse atmosphere is. We like to know what you guys do on off days. Stuff like that, that the everyday fans don’t usually have access too.

11 03 2008
nyyanks71377

The Three Amigos, great nickname and even better movie!! My only question is which Amigo are you? Dusty Bottoms, Lucky Day, or Ned Nederlander?

11 03 2008
markohodgins

don’t think write ups are a great idea, i mean there is plenty of other outlets to get that sort of info on your games, but just in general, whats the life of a major leaguer like during the season, what a major leaguer gets upto in a strange city when he’s got nothing to do, stuff like that

11 03 2008
theropolitansdotcom

Generation K, anyone? Don’t nickname yourself, it only ends in tears…Just ask a Mets fan.

11 03 2008
joshypops

Perhaps you could have people submit questions for specific teammates of yours, then hold little interviews with them. Sure it’s a little more work for you, but hey! When you work once every fifth day, what else have you got to do. Just joking. I’m gonna be in KC on April 9th. I hope you’re throwing that day.

11 03 2008
jboogie

I agree that the beat writers doa great job with the post game write-ups. I think it’d be nice to hear how you felt before and after each start. And maybe share any interesting stories that come up throughout the season. And by all means I think what happens in the clubhouse should stay in the clubhouse, unless those involved are cool with you telling us. The Yanks don’t need another David Wells spilling all the secrets.

As for the Three Amigos? Not really a fan of that. I personally like “The Triumvirate.” The definition being “any association of three in office or authority.” Came up with that myself but I’m sure it’s been used. If you guys are as good as we all know you are, it’s pretty fitting. If you stick with the Three Amigos, which one of you is “Dusty Bottoms?”

J

I’d be interested in random stuff off the field – like what was in the post-game spread, interesting travel stories, who won the latest Rock Band or Halo showdown, stuff like that.

Haven’t seen the YES interview yet – but does it include you guys doing the Three Amigos dance?

11 03 2008
scorpio01

Hey Phil, thanks for the blog, it’s great. I’d like to hear about all the off the field stuff too, like what do you guys do on the plane to kill time, what books are you guys reading, what does jeter eat for lunch, lol.

11 03 2008
afinepoint

are you guys going to haze Billy Crystal?

11 03 2008
sethmurphy

insight into life in the big leagues, things that us average fans wouldn’t know about. the travel, the hotels, the fans around the country, beinc recognized on the street. and also your reaction to how you play, kind of almost like analyzing yourself.

11 03 2008
stephmac

I saw you, joba, and ike on mike’d up the other night and was so pysched. As for the website can you talk more about the music you’re listening to like you did before since i listen to basically the same bands you do. thank you =]

11 03 2008
nyy11743

pictures are always cool, like inside clubhouses random stuff like that. I agree with not concentrating on post game write ups the writers ask you so many questions after the games anyway.

By the way with all this office talk what’s your favorite episode?

11 03 2008
pullinfertheyankers

i geuss this as been said qbut id love to hear about the whole behind the scenes aspect, like what you guys do before a game, if u play any video games, anything like that. but really, anyhting is good.

by the way, im a huge Office fan. best show on the air!

I like the 3 Amigos! Just having you do this is great, but the random pictures and playlists are fun too. Have a great week!

Phil-

Big fan of the blog! It’s very cool of you to do this…I think I speak for a lot of us here that we’ve been following your career and this just makes it that much sweeter.

That said, I think it would be incredible to hear about stuff that happens around the clubhouse that we can’t get from the beat guys. Fans love that stuff. And I’m a big fan of the pics posted from your travels.

Keep up the great work man, and take care of that arm!

the toronto one made me think of taking a road trip for an away game 🙂

11 03 2008

I got an idea Phil, how about video updates while one the road like Dane Cook. Talk about your latest stops, favorite things, walkin around the city or just goofing around.

11 03 2008

Phil honestly, I think you should hire a top website designer that can do flash extremely well and have a domain name or philhughes.com or something. It will get even more attention than this and you can write your blog on your on website with more features and easier ways to enter a blog post.

11 03 2008
pullinfertheyankers

I live in Rhode Island, so I’m always surrounded by huge Sox fans. When you go to Boston, What is it like for you guys, as players? And, what is your favorite city to be in, New York, or somewhere else?
Anything like that is cool, in general, information that we wouldn’t normally hear. But anything coming from you is always exciting. Keep up the awesome work!

11 03 2008
jzeidenb

Phil i would definately love to see more question and answer posts from you. Im more interested in hearing people ask you questions than the others, because it is your blog after all.

I really think its cool that your doing this blog at all, I never felt any connection to a Yankee baseball player before but its really cool that your sharing yourself with all of us. Its a blessing that the Yankees didnt get stupid and ship you out for Santana.

Another cool thing for the blog would be maybe a contest for ‘hang out with phil for a day’

cept you just have to make sure that it isnt first answer wins cuz 99% of us didnt even get a crack at the last contest haha.

11 03 2008
marinerecruiter04

Hey Phil, I not very religious but a good name for you three is “the 3 wise men”. Because it is very wise to have you three bring another championship back to New York. You 3 and the Marine Corps have a lot in common, the determination to win the battles!!!! Semper Fi

Your life as a baseball player is what I like. It lets me dream of what life would have been like if I had er ah..an athletic bone in my body. 🙂

Phil,

I just want to hear the stupid stuff you guys get up to. 🙂 I want to hear about YOU because I can read Yankee stuff anywhere. This connection you’ve made with the fans is truly remarkable and unique. Thank you so much for sharing as much as you have!!

Hey Phil,

I’d love to see you you do series like “10 Questions With XX” where you interview your teammates and give us fans additional insight into you and your teammates beyond what we might read in the traditional press. Questions could be about game preparation, pre game rituals/superstitions, favorite movies, favorite food to order from room service , post – game routine, best restaurants from the road, best prank you’ve played on a rookie, what kind of car do you drive, best gift you’ve every gotten/given, etc etc.

I think we all appreciate the insights you’ve provided into your life and would love to continue to learn more about you, your teammates and your relationship as a team.

Keep up the great work!

I am interested in what goes on in the clubhouse before and after the games. Do people play music? Is there like an Xbox or something set up that people like to play against each other? What do you guys eat? Fried crap or “healthy” food? do you whip each other with wet towels like in high school? Is there a lot of hanging out and shooting the sh*t? Are there delineations between the older guys and the younger guys? Do the old guys talk about investments and such while the young guys talk about girls and beer?
I hear all of these retired guys talking about the thing that they really miss is the hanging out in the clubhouse and the camraderie and all that. I wouldn’t mind hearing what that entails. It seems pretty cool.

Three Amigos? You’ve got it.

Anyway, I’ve been enjoying the random pictures, but, dude, it’s your blog and we’re lucky you update it as much as you do.

11 03 2008
ajm23

i like to hear clubhouse stories

11 03 2008
sportspat8

I think a lot of the stuff surrounding stories in the clubhouse, and your thoughts on how you performed are going to remain private, which is probably how it should be. If I were in your shoes, this blog would be used exactly how you’re using it – a way to connect to your fans without mimicking our good buddy Curt Schilling over there with that gay blog he has created where he discusses game situations and so forth (so I’ve heard).

Anyways, I think “A Day in the Life of The Philster” would be cool, where you give a timeline of the types of activities and things you did in a given day on an hour-by-hour basis. Let us be a little more jealous while we sit at work from 10 AM to 11 AM while we read your blog posting that said this was when you were stretching and jogging (and getting paid for it).

11 03 2008
littlekittynyc

I like when you just write about what is on your mind for that particular day….being spontaneous and fun is what you seem to be about…and I like learning more about you. ……(But, the baseball talk is ALWAYS good, too!!) I liked reading the last entries about the lineups…predictions..etc. BASEBALL, YANKEES>>>>>ALL # 1 !!!

Phil —

That’s absolutley hysterical re:the nicknames. Can you let us know at some point who’s who of the Three Amigos — which one of you is Dusty Bottoms, Lucky Day, and Ned Niederlander?

(If I were to guess, IPK would be Ned, Joba would be Lucky, and you would be Dusty — feel free to correct me!)

11 03 2008
rammknight

Hey Phil,

I always wish for 1 more thing (besides a Yankee victory) every game… I always wish I could hear some of the random conversations going on in the dugout. That kind of thing would be tons of fun to see on your blog… obviously nothing private, but just the silly nonsense that regular guys (and surely ball players) talk about while they’re killing time.

11 03 2008
epsilondelta09

definitely no post game write ups. don’t get me wrong, i would be extremely interested in reading it–front office though, not so much.

11 03 2008
mantlemurcer

Phil, I think I can speak for all of us when I say, we will pay you if you can get Michael Kay to stop calling the three of you, “Generation Trey”. PLEASE!!! I’m beggin’ ya!

I think a great feature would be some kind of meet and greet/10 questions with various players on the team. Things that are not normally asked of them.

11 03 2008
yankeefaninidaho

What’s shakin’ poohs? Has that nickname caught on yet? If not, just give it time. The three of you could be generation K. Or how bout the baddest mofo’s under 25 in the mlb? Or Strike 3? The possibilities are endless.

On a personal note, my wife and I are training for American Gladiators. No Joke. I was wondering if i could get my hands on a copy of the world famous Andy Pettitte/Roger Clemens workout plan. That would be very helpful for us. If not, it’s cool. Thanks for you time, we all appreciate you taking the time to talk with us. It’s very refreshing to see someone with so much talent be so grounded.

11 03 2008
handsomejoe

Phil,

Congrats on your nice outing this week. I guess what the fans would like to see is random pics of you and the guys having fun! baseball has been so serious with all the steroid questions and the exhausting question on what Joba’s role will be this season. It would be fun to see everyone having a good time.

Be good,

HJ

Phil, just get a 4th guy and you can be the four horsemen. You’d have your own Metallica song and everything. Or how about Cerberus, the 3 headed hellhound.

Does anyone know where the YES interview with the 3 amigos can be watched?

11 03 2008

I’m interested in what it’s like for you. I’m only a year or two younger than you, and the thought of playing for the Yankees absolutely baffles me. I’m wondering how you deal with the media, if you ever get frustrated by it, or if it’s something that you’re able to deal with naturally and you enjoy it. What’s it like having so many people suddenly know you?

11 03 2008
xsandman42x

Or since the hitters are the Bronx Bombers, how about the Bronx Bomb Squad. Yeah, i know, these are probably no good but i couldn’t help myself.

I’d like to hear about your experiences traveling and in other cities during away games. I can only imagine your “free time” is limited but it would be cool to hear about what you during that time. Pictures are always cool too!!!

11 03 2008
boodah35

Phil,
I agree with the other guys.
The off the field stuff is way better than breaking down games/starts etc.
The random pics are awesome.

The contests are great.
But remember bro, you don’t have to go crazy with the prizes.
You could make the prize be a personalized signed ball (“To So & So”)
every single time, and we would love it.

A cool contest may be for each of your starts.
Like whoever comes the closest to predicting your line for that start (IP/Runs Allowed/K’S) wins the prize.

Great blog Phil.
Great Spring so far.
Look forward to seeing you at the Stadium.

Hey Phil I was wondering if maybe as the season goes on you could maybe describe how it feels out there on the big league mound. I know for a high school pitcher like myself who will never sniff the majors it would really be nice to know what it is like through your eyes. By the way keep dominating in spring training you are the man.

11 03 2008
yanksgal07

Phil …

I love the random pics …,family shots, fun shots, travel shots. Guests posts are fun too …like the one you did with Ian. I bet you could get a few of the “older” guys to answer a few fan questions along with the youngsters. Would love to hear from Joba and Shelley. Any old thing you like to write is fine because it’s always great just seeing a new post by you.

As far as the nickname ..I’m still partial to The Trinity but if The Three Amigos is the way to go …OLE !!!!

Nice going by Wanger today ….looking good with all those ground balls. The starting staff is looking pretty impressive as well as the relievers. I know it’s only ST but it’s still terrific seeing everyone doing well and psyched for the season. Can’t wait for Opening Day (I’ll be there !!!!)

Go Yankees 2008 !!!!

11 03 2008
joeybagsny

Yeah someone already brought it up but the music you listen to would seem interesting. Considering I’m a hip hop producer, I find that stuff interesting. But also what you do to prepare for starts if there are any “rituals” you do like Clemens for instance would touch the Babe Ruth monument at Yankee Stadium.. what do you do?

I think a lot of us would like to hear more about what it’s like to be a big league ball player. We know what you guys do on the field (some probably follow you more than you do) but I’d love to know what goes on off the field too. I’m the same age as you and I love to hear that I’m just like you except you throw 95 with a sick hook.

11 03 2008
shan1013

Like you said, the beat writers pretty much have the post game stuff covered. I always like funny stories or quotes, something that isn’t going to make it into the Post but still interesting.

You mentioned a few blogs ago you bought a new digital SLR. How about some photos? Some documentary style photos would be cool.. Day in the Life kinda stuff.

Just don’t go with the Curt Schilling blog style and I’m sure it’ll be cool.

11 03 2008
emobassfoo

I want to know what players talk about in the dugout, bullpen and especially at first base. Giambi always chats up a storm with people on first… What do they talk about? How he hit the ball? How he saw one of the outfielders picking his nose? How the guy selling beer behind home plate wouldn’t shut up?

11 03 2008
wolfinpinstripes

Yeah, that was me that did the Three Amigos graphic – I actually posted a link to it here in the comments a few days ago and emailed it to Phil (probably in the middle of a gazillion emails in his inbox … LOL ) We were discussing the silly “Generation Trey” thing at Pete Abe’s during a game the other day and I suggested the Three Amigos and did the graphic. Hopefully the Phranchise sees it soon.

Thanks for reposting the link, jen (yankeechick78).

phil, do you usually take pictures throughout the season? i know most of us would love to see what you capture throughout the various cities and parks

11 03 2008

Much like Stever Serby does in the Sunday Post, what if you interviewed a random member of the Yankee family each week (until you run out of people!)and asked them random questions. Everyone from Jeter to Gene Monohan. This time you get to play interviewer for a change and ask the questions of your teammates! You can mix the standard serious questions (3 dinner guests) with some funny ones (if you were out at a bar trying to meet chicks, which teammate would make the best wing man)

11 03 2008
Breanna

I always enjoy when you post pictures.
Some behind the scenes shots would be neat!

11 03 2008
phughesrocks

I think what would be really cool is if you talked about stuff that goes on in the clubhouse and around the other guys so we could feel like we’re a part of it somehow, and we can get a sense of how cool you guys are around the clubhouse. Like, for instance, quote of the day from someone on the team. Also, I was thinking that once in a while you could have like a guest star on the blog or something of that sort. Basically, it doesn’t really matter what you do and anything would be awesome because this is the coolest blog ever and you’re the coolest person ever.

11 03 2008
eshelmanjamesb

Phil,

You have to get Billy Crystal’s graph on a ball!!!! It would be a great conversation starter.

Perhaps an on-line store where people can purchase items in which proceeds go to a charity.

Just a thought or two.

11 03 2008
xsandman42x

I agree with phughesrocks. Just the fact that you made this blog and are maintaining it to this level is more than we could ask for. Everything else is just a bonus. I hope you know how much we all really appreciate this.

11 03 2008
bkny27

i think it would be cool to post what you guys do for fun, both inside and outside the park… also maybe how “everyday” situations might be different for you (i.e. going out to eat, or some crazy story about the laundrymat or renting a movie or something!) also, random pics of the day are cool too.

11 03 2008
arodmariano4213

Maby an inside look in to what its like in the clubhouse? ive always wondered what its like before and after games besides what you see in interviews. or what you do on off days is always interesting.

And Phil im hopeing you pitch April 5th cuz im goin to be there (you line up no to tho) Before the game my buddies and i always get there for BP so be sure to listen to some loud obnoxious college kids. i’ll be yelling for you.

good luck and stay healthy.

11 03 2008

Have you mentioned any of your favorite movies? Maybe have a movie review section up?
A Halo Tournament would be cool, and also as another way to hand out some cherished prizes (To grandchild: That, there is a Phil Hughes signed ball…no, I didn’t get this at Yankee Stadium…I got this after laying down a massive pwning in the Valhalla map).

11 03 2008
phughesrocks

I also like the idea of fun contests about your starts, like guessing your pitching line, etc. Basically, like most people have been saying, it would be cool for you to talk about off the field stuff including pics, clubhouse banter, and other fun stuff. Give us a feel of what it’s like to be in the big leagues. Thanks, Phil, and keep up the good work in Spring Training.

11 03 2008
yanks4ever13

argh, I wish I got YES network! college in NC and the rest of the time in FL don’t really give me much to work with, baseball wise. I love the nickname ‘the three amigos.’ That seems to work really well for you three.

And as for what I’d like to see on the blog – probably a lot of the same. Once the season gets going you probably won’t have as much time, but just little tid bits about your life. Things that you’re interested in at the time. Maybe a good movie you saw (if you’re into movies), or a really good restaurant you went to, so people who live nearby (which would not be me) could check it out. I just think that it’s great that you want to give back to the fans by blogging. We love hearing from you (at least I know I do, and I’m assuming that everyone else who keeps posting does too), and it’s great to know that you like hearing from us.

Hey Phil…

If you see Cash tell him congrats on handling Mike & Chris today. I just listened to the interview. Those two guys better study before they question people. They really came off looking like fools today. Cash did a great job …and…he was very informative in the interview for the Yankee fan.

Thanks Cash !!! Go Yankees 2008 !!!!

Also, another side note……I just saw “Women’s Appreciation” episode of the office on TBS. Wow, it’s such a good episode, and actually it contains one of the questions and answers from your last contest (where Angela is forced to shop). Go Three Amigos!

Hey Phil,

I recommend that you have a contest where a fan can possibly meet you in person prior to a game or on an off day you may have. I would suspect that fans would love this idea. On your end you can make it a one time deal so it would draw lots of interest from anyone who would like to meet with you and have a chat.

saucyflossy

i agree that more random pictures are a good idea (just no naked pull-up shots).

maybe a poll from time to time.

11 03 2008
gisia13

post some more pictures! those are always the best… moose’s window in the clubhouse, alligator at the golf course, view outside your hotel room, your nieces (jk!).

photos that you find interesting, we’ll find interesting. how about guest bloggers? ask ian, joba, or jeff to put up a post. i dunno, everything you put up here is pretty cool, i’d say keep up what you’ve been doing.

11 03 2008
melky27

well with the post game stuff maybe not too much but just an quick opinion maybe just even like a sentence cause your opinion is different from the beat writer’s. more pictures would be cool too.

11 03 2008
yanks4ever13

Oh, there’s one little suggestion that I just remembered. I don’t know how the site works, but if there’s a way to show the time that your posts are put up, that’d be cool. I usually look at when the first comment was posted to see the approximate time your post went up. It’s just something I’m used to seeing over of Peter Abraham’s blog that I like.

11 03 2008
bigapplesportsblog

I think it would be cool if you told stories about some of your teammates and funny things that go on in the clubhouse. I obviously understand that you can’t tell too much, because you have to respect the privacy of your teammates. But if there are any cool stories about your teammates that are not too personal and are appropriate to repeat in your blog, I would definitely like to hear them.

The interview with Ian Kennedy a few weeks back was great too, it gave us a good look at how you guys are as actual people, not just ballplayers. Keep up the good work with the blog, and good luck this season. (Not like you’ll need it, I predict 16 wins)

i’d like to know more about what goes on in the clubhouse, before and after games

i don’t expect anything private, but little tidbits here and there, practical jokes people play on each other, etc.

11 03 2008
yanks4ever13

and speaking of PA’s blog, in his most recent post (at 11:11pm) he says he’s voting for you for the Cy Young this season, because he liked the line you wrote about how the “beat writers do a fantastic job.”

11 03 2008
betsypaige

I love the blog as it is, Phil – you need not change a thing. I agree with everyone here – the best part of the blog is getting to know who YOU are as a person, outside the lines. Since you love the Food Network, I presume you love to eat……..if not cook. What are your favorite foods? Least favorite? That kind of thing….What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done? Anything you choose to share is something we would be interested in. I do love your Photo of the Day – that’s really cool.

That YES interview better be available, lol – I missed it and now I’m miffed!

11 03 2008
betsypaige

By the way, Phil – you write just like you talk. No pretentious talk, no wordy high-falutin blog. You’re just a regular 21 year old still, despite having ability to die for. I love it…….

11 03 2008
cupajoba

Phil – You should tell us stuff that beat writers dont cover or mention. The little quirky things that go on behind the scenes would be awesome to hear about. Game recaps and pitching stats can all be retrieved by 50 different sites, but you have the ability to give the fans an inside scoop on day to day events in the clubhouse. Not asking for crazy details, but moreso something funny that happened such as a prank from bruney/hawkins, etc.

11 03 2008
mirofoto

you know what would be cool … there is this mini-camcorder called “Flip Ultra” – its about a buck fifty … really simple to use, no-brainer type stuff … uploads directly into You Tube … anyways, figure it would be fairly straight forward to post video clips on your blog … which would be way cool … dugout stuff, maybe clubhouse shots, road trips, whatever … just a thought. Keep up the great work Phil!

Phil,

How about a guest blogger of the week. Perhaps a “Teammate Thursday” type of thing.

11 03 2008
cdeete01

Phil,
I think the fact that you blog for your fans in general is fantastic. I’m a fan from Indiana, and just last summer was able to get to my first game in Yankee Stadium, and you pitched. I’ve been following you and your pitching ever since.

The coolest part about following along on what you are doing is there are finally professional athletes are are in my age range, and I’m not just watching a bunch of way older people play. I’m a senior at an all girl’s college, so it’s really fun to watch what other people outside of my world, especially famous ones, are doing.

So as for what kind of posts for the future, just knowing about what life as a Yankee and in the big leagues is like is great. Giving those of us who dream of baseball and knowing you guys a glimpse into your life is pretty awesome.

Thanks for all the blogging (and baseball) you’ve done thus far, and all the blogging and baseball that’s yet to come!

Carole

phil, the contests are great. but dont make that the reason why so many people come here. i just love reading about the inside of baseball, what goes on in the locker room, the things you guys do for fun, the stuff we DONT read about in the beat writers pages. (although pete abraham is the man…)

your doing great man, you’ve started a revolution…

11 03 2008
james5348

i think the coolest thing would obviously take about the game. but keep us updated on any charity events, work, etc of things off the field you have coming up.something along those lines

11 03 2008
eshelmanjamesb

A Who Am I? section.

Give the readers off the playing field type information and the bloggers will have to guess who the person is through a poll survey.

i.e. weird quirks, superstitions, favorite restaurant while on the road. stuff like that.

11 03 2008
morineko

I started reading your blog because I was very amused by all the random pictures you take (so here’s another vote for “more of what you’ve been posting.”

Commentary on your TV viewing would also be interesting…it’s nice to see people so fannish about their TV. 😉

generation trey is a generation gay and you can tell mike kay i said that..

I think every reader would back me up that a SI or ESPN cover Headlining with “The Three Amigos” with a picture of you three in uniform with some of those spanish looking blankets with the hole in it and some big sombreros would tremendous…..and a fake stash wouldn’t hurt …And if i ever see it i want a personal signed copy from you three

As the new stadium goes up it would be cool if you could update the readers on some of the cool things that you notice…in the locker room and stuff…

11 03 2008

I think “The Trinity” is a very decent name.

“The Trifecta” isn’t that bad either

Would be a cool contest to name you guys 🙂

ummm…..let’s see. I wanna see the Three Amigos play 3 on 1 against Andrew Brackman in basketball.

Phil, I love that you have this blog. I know what a pain in the ass they can be to keep up. However, if you do keep it going, I’m sure we’d all love to read things about what you think about the games, before and after. An idea about how you prepare to face certain hitters. What it’s like going into a start in Fenway or at Shea. I know there’s clubhouse stuff we’d love to know, but some things need to be kept there, like how much abuse A-Rod takes for all the women he stupidly gets caught with :), or how you can’t drive anywhere in New York without seeing Jeter’s face 20 feet high selling something.

11 03 2008
cmarmo

I don’t think the Yankees managmement would appreciate a game analysis when you take the mound every fifth day. You might give away some of your secrets to..lets say the Red Sox! I am sure Cashman must have touched upon the subject at some point this spring training. Keep on doing what you are doing.

I’ve always liked the Trinity but I think it may have too many religious connotations for some people.

it’d be cool to hear some stories on road trips, or how (if) people in the clubhouse react to whatever stories the media will exaggerate

I would like to now more about you Personality and Ian and joba and what you Favorite things that you like. and what are you favorite sports then form baseball.

12 03 2008

Dude. I know you have to be the busiest guy in the world during the season. Here’s the deal: You don’t have to give us much to keep us reading. It’s freaking awesome that the No. 3 pitcher, a 21-year-old, right-handed stud, is taking time to communicate with Yanks fans.

You need to think of stuff to post? Write about the last year of Yankee Stadium. Write about the people you meet all year. Write about what you do on planes. Tell us the craziest story you hear about yesteryear (leave names out if it’s too juicy). Write about midtown Manhattan. Write about your goals after baseball. Upload music people give you. Upload photos of your travels, your teammates, your life.

I don’t want to be a voyeur, but damn, dude, you are giving a sports insider the kind of stuff that nobody — beat writers, friends/family, etc. — can get anywhere else. And that’s actual access to a Yankee.

While I’m ranting, pay no attention to anybody who tells you what NOT to do. My Lord, that drives me nuts. This is your blog. You could walk away today. Some people don’t seem to get that.

Bottom line, I appreciate the contact. I appreciate the little things. You post it, I’ll read it. Pretty simple.

BTW, one more thing. I’m going to some Triple-A games in Durham when Scranton plays there. Please e-mail me something that friends and I can post on a sign that will stir up trouble. We’re sitting near CF. I figure Gardner will be there.

Again, thank you for this.

I’d like to hear what you and other players talk about during the game. I’d also like to know how you feel about some of the players you face like toughest hitter, person that drives you crazy on the base paths and tell us about the hot women you meet like reporters Michelle Beadle from the Yesnetwork. You never know, if you like some one, you can use this blog as an excuse to get this person to know that you like her.

My favorite stuff thus far has been the Q&A you’ve done from time to time. I’d love for you to do a weekly/bi-weekly mailbag, maybe with guests to give you a break sometimes. Or, if fans are emailing you questions all the time and you’re answering them, bundle up a bunch of good/funny/insightful/whatever ones and make a post out of it.

Frankly, not much to complain about other than that 🙂

Phil-
First and foremost I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day to give a little insight into your life. As for ideas to write about when the season is going on treat this like your diary to the world. So far you have been great by letting your personality come through and not being so “cookie cutter”. This blog should go beyond baseball, I am sure when the season is going on baseball is going to be the last thing you want to talk about sometimes. Just comment on regular day to day things ie. movies you’ve seen recently and what you think, the first big purchase you want when you get that FAT contract in a few years etc etc. Just keep it simple and always be yourself you’ll be fine. All the luck to you (not that you need it, you’ve been lights out this spring)
Thanks again for the blog

pinstripes4ari

Phil, after interview # 8,700…don’t you just want to say something like, “Let’s talk about the game of paper, rock, scissors. What are your strategies”

I hate the post-loss interview questions:

Reporter: “How do you feel after a bad outing?”

Player: “Oh just great. We all are really pleased after I got shelled by the entire side in the 1st inning. Did you see how far the ball was going? Wow!”

Phil, I’m giving you a nickname. Seriously, my family will now refer to you only as:

ROCK STAR!

Good luck this season!

12 03 2008
bigbronxballs77

I always like a mix of info…personal and sports related.

However, that doesn’t mean I want to know about girlfriends, etc. Nor do I expect you to go all Curtis Montague Schilling and complain about contract issues or announce injuries on your blog.

Keep it simple and fun—

Would like your take on, for example, what video games you play (and why), music (already do that), favorite movies, favorite places to eat (not the address, of course, but like “the Tour of Italy at the OG”!), fun stuff.

Re: sports topics, who you like to listen to on radio, read in newspaper and watch on TV (ie, Mike and Mike, Jim Rome, P-Abe, Lupica (please no!!!), and PTI, etc.??) what batters you don’t like to face and why…(if you’d want to release that info) what sports you play (or used to) other than baseball.

A little inside the locker room action would be cool… Does Damon still walk around naked and do crossword puzzles in the nude an hour before every game? Did Shelley and Giambi break a table wrestling, and who won? Who took a dump in Pavano;s locker, etc?

Its the tidbits that one can’t get anywhere else that will keep ’em coming back in droves. You have even better access to the info than ANY beat writer.

If you build it, they will come… IMHO

12 03 2008
bigbronxballs77

OR, Yankeesdaily, he can walk up to her and say…

“Hi I’m Phil Franchise Hughes and I’d like to buy you a steak dinner…”

I don’t think a star on the NYY needs to beat around the bush on his blog and post about liking a chickenhead. I imagine he walks right up to her and tells her!!!!

And I agree with what Whozat said. The blog is already terrific. But anything you add now will just be icing on the cake!

12 03 2008

I like the new format, but new all the posters in there.

The blog is really just a reflection of your experiences and I think you’re doing a great service to us fans. We’re not expecting 162 post game reports or even an analysis on all your starts this season. But maybe stuff like how you felt for example when A-Rod made that diving stop to prevent further runs from scoring or something that may have happened in game that really set the tone for you, good or bad.

One thing i’d really like to know is what exactly the convo is during a meeting on the mound or when Jeter comes over and gives his $.02.

How about life off the baseball field during the season? What you do on your days off, what the travel days are like, nightlife when you’re not pitching, etc.

12 03 2008
jjcinnj06

Hey Phil, big fan of the off the field stuff – I’d like to know what life is like on the road for you in your first big league season. Like, which cities you like, which ones have the best fans, the best food, which cities you wouldn’t visit if you weren’t getting paid to pitch there, etc. Also, any clubhouse tidbits would be cool, like if you’re planning something for a guy’s birthday or pranks that get played (like the whole LaTroy Hawkins/Brian Brueny/Andrew Brackman battles).

12 03 2008
jcyanks08

Phil,

I didn’t read all of the comments because I would get fired for not doing any work, but I agreed with what I saw.

I think it would be great to talk about everything that goes on before and after the YES Network airs a game. That is the best thing about this blog, is how you show us that you’re just like everyone else.

Thanks again for the blog, it’s one of my first online stops in the morning! Along with Peter Abraham’s blog of course…

12 03 2008

Hi Phil, I couldn’t agree more with everyone who wants to see more pictures! I’m looking forward to seeing all the mileage you put on your new Digital Rebel on road trips, because honestly most of us will never get to see what you guys see in one summer! I also agree with jjcinnj06. Inside information on all the little idiosyncrasies of the various ballparks you guys go to would be too cool. Take it easy Phil and thanks again for everything!

I liked the questions you took for Ian Kennedy on the blog. If you had to add anything, it should be an in depth interview with Carl Pavano outlining his 3 year recovery from injury.

entersandman42

Wow, 150 comments on this so far. I got bored after reading about 50 so I’ll chime in with my thoughts. I agree with most people in that the actual baseball portion is covered by the beat writers. I am not going to lump effusive praise on them because I think some of them are very good and some of them are…NOT!!

But I do agree that we get plenty of game info from the papers/tv/internet etc.

I would definitely like the “insiders” view to the team. What happens that we don’t see. What happens after a win/loss would be interesting. If there is a baseball related tidbit that wouldn’t be picked up by the beat writers then that might be interesting but not x’s and o’s of baseball. More of the personal day to day stuff would be more appropriate I think.

I think what is evident, is that since your blog got so much publicity in recent newspapers, a question like the one you posed is likely to evoke a lot of different answers that you can’t possibly respond to. So keep doing what your doing.

It’s your blog and you can put up anything you want.

BTW, the person who requested a mix of politics and baseball should not be allowed back!! I think we’ve all had enough congressional hearings for a season and dno’t need to spawn political debate on what is supposed to be a happy blog!!

Just my two cents!

12 03 2008

As a few people have noted, “Generation Trey” is really dumb. I understand its supposed to be a witty pun on the Mets’ Generation K from like 14 years ago, but Generation Trey just sounds so lame. It seems like George King is doing everything he can to coin the term by including it in every single story he writes, and it doesn’t help with Michael Kay using it on-air. I’d like to avoid a nickname for the three of you…history shows nicknames with Groups of 3 pitchers don’t do well…Izzy, Pulsipher, and Wilson stunk for the Mets. The A’s had the Big Three, who had a nice run for a few years but were broken up and now are pretty huge non-factors in baseball. Good luck to the three of you, and I’m sorry that you have to constantly hear all these dorky nicknames.

Hey Phil,

Big Yankees fan from Seattle here…used to live in CT and be a season ticket holder. I certainly appreciate anything you write on here and think it is an awesome thing you do for us fans.
Not sure if you are an NCAA Hoops fan, but input on what teams or games you would be following…or any other cool stuff from the road that we can’t read in the papers, cool places to eat or new bands you’ve seen or heard, anything will be cool. Thanks again and good luck this year!

I think the coolest part of your blog is that you show us that guys like you, Ian, Joba and Shelley are regular guys. I like seeing pictures of you hanging out, on the road, visiting different places, doing normal stuff. When you had the pictures of you with Breaking Ben or at the Bud Shootout, that was cool. It shows us that you do the same things that regular people do and you are fans of other celebrities the way we are fans of yours.

You’re right that we don’t need your commentary on games, unless there’s something funny or interesting that we would never get to hear about anywhere else.

Thanks!!

Hey Phil-

Would love to hear some feelings on the game and how you felt it went, especially if you pitched. Give us a little behind the scenes, things the beat reporters cant get their hands on. Also keep us posted on the young ones.

Good job pitching Phil! You are looking really good! You are so awesome for doing this blog and wanting to make it special for the fans. I agree with a few others on here that you should keep this blog dedicated to more of the personal side of things. Its not too ofetn that we hget to see some of the greats in baseball as just regular people. it would be cool to get an insiders view, so any candid photo’s you take would be awesome to see. besides that just keep doin what your doin. think the blog is great, especially the Q&A sessions. Good luck from one Phil to another!

12 03 2008

Phil…how about a big blog of all your favorites? It could be as random as favorite fast food restaurant, favorite movie, favorite pitch to throw with 2 strikes, favorite Gatorade flavor, favorite autograph you’ve collected, etc. You can even open up suggestions for what the fans what to know about your favorites. Stuff like that is what I am looking for because like you said, I can get pitching breakdowns from the Post or ESPN.com. Have a great day.

12 03 2008
briancromer

I got one more idea…how about a list of all your guilty pleasures songs that are on your iPOD? You know, the songs that you like but would be a little embarrassed if people knew what was on there. These are the songs you don’t brag about or ask Yankee Stadium to play while you are walking to the mound. That would be hilarious.

12 03 2008

Hey Phil,

I always find it pretty cool what players do on off days as well as before and after the game. i also think being that most of us will never get in the clubhouse/dugout just keep us posted on whats going on. You never think that you guys are real people but your making me and the rest of the fans see that you are…

Thanks

I think I agree with the majority here. I like hearing about the off field shenanigans (I swear to God I’m going to pistol whip the next guy who says, ” Shenanigans.” ) and the type of music you’re currently listening to. I just bought a new disc by the band Saving Abel. You can see there video for Addicted on You Tube, the chick in the video is pretty hot. The song rocks too.
There’s my 2 cents, don’t spend it all in one place.

12 03 2008

I think you should make a list of words that begin with the letter Q, and that could be all you ever blog about. Like “hey guys, I thought of some more words…. “

12 03 2008

I think it would be great to hear about your preparation for your next start. For example what your pre game routine is, your routine during the week (throw days, etc). An “insider’s” view into the goings on in the clubhouse would be cool too, although I understand there are things that shoudl be kept private.

I think the beat writers do a great job, but their editors want “stories” to sell newspapers. I personally like to hear the true goings on, boring or not, as it is something that many of us will never have access to.

12 03 2008
pinstripes3926

Hey Phil,
What i like about this site is us getting to know you personally. Letting us know things outside of baseball or behind the scenes is great. Let us know more about funny things in the locker room like Moose’s ‘window’ or what shows, music or video games you grew up on (since you like Metallica, you ever think of warming up on the mound to: To Whom The Bell Tolls; that can fire up anyone).
Thanks for interacting with us, keep up the good work!

Hey Phil,
I have a GQ cover somewhere with 3 shortstops that they nicknamed the Three Amigos. I’m sure they’d let you guys have it seeing that you play with two of them.
As far as what to post I love club house stories and my brother and some of his friends, who read this, are in little league so some pointers for them would be great.

12 03 2008

Phil,

How about a season long series of day-in-the-life postings over the course of the season. You could do a ‘workout’ day, a ‘travel’ day, and a ‘home game’ day during the rest of spring training. Then you could do ‘off day on the road’, ‘off day at home’, ‘game day on the road’, ‘game day at home’, ‘get-away day’, etc…during the season. Post-season postings & rivalry games (Sox, Mets, etc…) could also allow you to expose differences (if any) that exist and explore some of the mystique (or debunk it) of playing a rivalry or post season game.

I think lots of folks would be interesting in how the three amigos prepare for games, and how this prep is similar/different to how other pitchers prepare. You could describe you/IPK/Jaba/Andy/etc…game-day prep. This would be great reading for the casual fan, and might teach a few younger players a few new tricks.

Whatever you do, I’ll be reading it! Keep up the good blogging.

12 03 2008
bethyj

I’d be willing to read just about anything you blog about. I only hope you’re willing to continue to update during the season. Derek and Alex have ‘journals’ but they only update once or twice a year and it’s never really much of an update. I feel like I’m reading a press release or something whenever they update.

I like that I know this is your personal blog, it’s real and it’s candid and it’s just all you. For that reason I think you should just update with whatever you’d like. Whatever is on your mind, a great restaurant you found in Toronto… Heck, you could even go the Kanye West road and just post random stuff you think is cool, lol.

Like I said; you post it, I’d read it.

PS – Can’t wait to see Billy Crystal tomorrow. Wonder what Girardi’s actually going to let him do, other than warm the bench. lol.

12 03 2008

I think after the games that you start I think you should tell us the things that you thing you did well and some of things you think you need to improve you and like your thoughts on the game and/or your outing
besides that I think you should tell us what goes on in the clubhouse maybe some of the funny things or the practical jokes you guys play on each other

12 03 2008

As for the nickname, 3 Amigos is good…but what about ‘The Triplets’…as given to the Dallas Cowboy players at the top of their game in the 90s: Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith?

12 03 2008
cyalatermd

Forget the game stuff, I think all of us true Yankee fans know enough about how the game went. How about letting us know of stupid bullpen conversations, competitions, pranks, ect…. . We all know its not strictly baseball talk going on out there. Just an Idea……Later Phil!

12 03 2008

I would enjoy hearing about anything that is going on with your day, whether it is game-related or not.

personally, the part of baseball i miss the most is the clubhouse chatter, and getting to know the personalities of the players on the team. Since the Yankees pride themselves on professionalism it’s sometimes hard to get an idea of what they’re like. I think it would be fun to hear about some tidbits of the converstaions you guys have (baseball related or not) to shed the corporate image many people attribute to the Yanks.

keep up the good pitching!

‘Generation Trey’ is gimp. Especially when you start hearing it by Michael Kay.
Reading it is bad enough. There has to be something better if at all, there is a corny label.

Content ideas
-movies you have seen or want to see (dvd or theaters)
-music you are currently in to
-gaming, favorite games currently playing or are looking forward to coming out
-teammate pranks you have been witness too
-favorite web sites
-gadgets/electronics you have and want
-Sayings & nicknames for other players
-off day fun stuff that happens, special outings/side trips, etc w/pics
-ARod investment tracking!!! haha (we know he loves Berkshire Hathaway & Warren Buffett)

Just a few ideas for ya.

Phil,

We have given this alot of thought you should give us an insight into how your days are while you are getting ready for the games. What you do when you travel how life is in other clubhouses compared to being in Yankee Stadium. These are the things no reporter can tell us because they are not you. Kind of a Behind the Music of sorts.

Speaking of Music have you thought about the Linkin Park Song What I’ve Done as the song they play when you start your games I think it would be great what are your thoughts?

Hi Phil,

I’d love to hear about Clubhouse conversations as the season goes on…. funny things any of the guys said or did (including yourself). Also, would be cool to hear what you’re doing, where you’re hanging out, etc. while you’re on the road during the season.

Thanks for keeping up the blog so often – you’ve built a loyal base of frequent readers now!! 🙂

Cheers

Hey Phil,

This blog is awesome. I got an Idea, how about you act as a reporter of sorts. We submit questions that you could ask your teammates (non-Baseball of course) and you pick some out and report some of the answers to us. Since no one else is blogging it would be interesting to me at least to see what other Yankees are doing outside the game. I know this puts you to work a bit so it might be an awful idea but it was just a thought.

Thanks for the blog. It keeps me busy at work.

you can blog when something funny happens in the locker room (a great gag) or on the plane. This is the stuff beat writers don’t write (or maybe get to see). Blog about the stuff that you go through outside the lines.

I think its great that you’re as straight forward as you are… I hope you don’t change.

The inside info and behind the scenes stuff is great Phil. Keep it up!

Maybe if you have some cool pictures of you guys or the team that would be nice. I usually clip them out of the paper or mags and put them up around my office and at work to piss off all the Angel fans….HA..

hey phil, maybe you can post fun stuff that happens in the clubhouse/dugout or during a game that we would never hear about.

thanks.

Hey Phil,

I just heard a report on the radio about the brawl with the Rays!

I think I just found a topic I’d love to know more about! Like what do you do when you see the entire team charging out to second base? What role do you take as a pitcher? What’s the feeling going through you as the benches empty?

I haven’t seen the slide on TV yet but just to throw my immediate thoughts in:

1. I don’t mind the “pluck” of Shelley Duncan in going in hard into second base (I heard it was spikes up but haven’t seen it)
2. I think for a long time other teams took advantage of the Yankees “softness” in that they never, or rarely retaliated for anything and I felt that the slide into home, while clean, was uncalled for.

With that said, I’m not sure Spring Training is the time to take care of business. Thankfully Jeter and Arod were not playing today, but Cano, Melky, Abreu etc were. If one of them got hurt it would be tragic.

So I like the play and the attitude, but it might have been a bit misplaced.

Thoughts?

Everyone,
I know that each of us are now “daily” visitors waiting for the newest contest or the latest post. (This may be long, but gets to the point at the end, I promise). Some of us are watching “The Office” now, just because it might be the next trvia question topic, or we are now collecting memorabilia of Hughes just because he interacts with the fans.
I wanted to share an experience of mine that hopefully some if not all of you will encounter. My dream as a kid was to play pro ball just like all of us dreampt…after playing in college and seemingly losing hope as I did not speak with a scout after high school, I did the next best thing, get as close to the game as I could. Being a huge collector and bleeding pinstripes, I wanted to be in NY and be as close to the Stadium look, feel, and touch each day. I work for one of, if not the biggest sports memorabilia company in the world. I took the job 3 days before I graduated from college and one day before I heard from the Long Island Ducks baseball team asking me to come to an open tryout…..I figured, one gottem beats two gettums and I didnt take off of work, fearing work wouldnt be there when I needed to return. I dont necessarily regret it because of the experiences I have had while in my office. He wasnt the first athlete I met, wasnt the most famous, and most certainly will not be the last person I meet, although, he was one of the nicest. Phil knows who I am, and we have talked only but a few times. I just wanted to tell everyone that Phil is a good guy, and very down to Earth. I think he took a picture with about every person in the office and smiled doing so the whole time. He is a stand up guy, and a standout baseball player. I am proud to have Hughes don the Pinstripes (hopefully having MUCH

*better luck than the last Yankees who had #34*!) Phil, I look forward to talking about the newest memorabilia in each of our collections and trading retired athlete stories back and forth…..(Also hopefully ironing out a deal for your RC autos I have!

Hey Phil,
How was the brawl today? It seemed pretty crazy from what I read.

12 03 2008
pdriggs2029

I got a good question!! What is it like to beat down on some DevilRays!!!??

Seriously though, what is it like to get into a big league brawl or what’s the feeling when you think you need to retaliate with a pitch?

12 03 2008
pdriggs2029

How about some Shelly Duncan prizes? That guy is NUTS!!!

And how about a question on what it’s like to be in a big league brawl or what it’s like to think you have to retaliate with one of your pitches?

I don’t think Phil was there today for the excitement. It was a road game and he wasn’t pitching, so he probably wasn’t on the travel squad.

sorry pal but three amigos is kind of lame. i call all the young guys the yankee underground, basically because you guys are the groundwork for the future.

Phranchise, just keep doing what your doing. The contests are great ( stop making them “the office” related I’ve never seen the show) and as for your niknames, i think “THE BIG THREE” Sounds best. It was created by a great Yankee site http://www.riveraveblues.com

hey Phil, I’m just curious as to what happened today with Shelly and the Rays and what your thoughts are. There was no TV coverage today and the only info I got on it was what I read on the yanks website.

Phil thanks for communicating with us…my idea would be a Q&A from time to time. A guest appearance from someone from the team once in a while would be cool too…Keep up the good work!

I think its great what your doing with the blog. It would be pretty cool though if you gave us your own perspective of the season. It’d be a nice change of pace to see things from the players eyes rather than that of a sportswriter.

Tempers flared in that Rays game huh? lol

Phil…

I think you, Joba & Ian should just lead us to a World Series championship this year. So, with that in mind, the nickname for the three of you should be……..

I didn’t go through all 190+ postings so this may have already been said, but how about telling us your favorite places to go to (clubs, resturants, bars) while visiting other cities. Also, what do you do with all the down time when on the road, especially being a pitcher and not playing everyday.
On a side note, because of todays festivities, what’s it like to be in a big league brawl? I don’t think you were there today but just asking in general. What about the feeling that you have to “retaliate” with one of your pitches?
Thanks for your posts, I’ve been checking the site multiple times a day now.

Keep up what you’re doin man, it’s sweet to have a ballplayer talk to the fans like a normal person. I think we all appreciate what you’re doing.

How about some restaurant reviews from the road?

Or the craziest things you see on road trips? Whether it’s a sign, a fan, or a fan holding a sign…

Or, maybe you can do interviews with the press and flip the coin on them…. ask them questions and post them here.

Hi Phil!
A nickname for you three that first came to me was “Triple Play”.

Keep up the great blog. I look forward to reading it. I like to hear about the things you guys do off the field. I’d like to see some candid pictures of you and your team members.

The entries about music: your tastes and your teammates’, are great.

I think a semi-recurring segment called “Overheard in the Clubhouse” would be cool. You don’t even have to reveal who the speaker was, just share some of the funnier, weirder, or more poignant things you’ve heard in there.

Thanks for the blog. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Love tommytsp’s comment. Would also love some sort of “reverse reporting.” So, the media report on you and fans like me read a lot of it. What if you report on the fans at the games- interesting stuff you observe at home and on the road. Interesting folks you meet when you’re signing baseballs at road games, your reaction to when the fans at The Stadium do the wave (booooooooo) while you’re pitching, or yell at the squirrell in RF while you guys are hitting. Would be great to get to read the ballpark from your eyes in the dugout or on the mound.

Oh yeah, and what about random pics of the post-game spread, and descriptions of who eats what (and how much!) as long as you don’t step on any toes.

Thanks for the blog.

Phil-

I’m from Boston but coming to Yankees Stadium to see the Opening Weekend Series! How about some ideas on places to eat or go for us out of town Yankee Fans. Fun Sports Bars to watch games, etc. From either you or from your fans on the website?

Thanks,

I just saw that interview tonight! It was cool. You guys look like really normal everyday guys. Which is very refreshing. You all also looked like good friends which is really cool.

I was watching Pride, Power, Pinstripes tonight & I caught the Three Amigos interview. That is a good nickname by the way. When Kim mentioned your blog I wanted to check it out & I think it’s great. I think it’s a great way to stay connected with the fans, and it’s easy to see that the entries are done by you cause it’s not like a summation of weeks or months of events which I like. I know the season will keep you busy, but please keep us as updated as you can. You should definitely include some of the hot places you get to visit while on the road. Have a great season Phil..I know you and the rest of the team will do really well 🙂
