Really pumped about tomorrow. It is definitely a different feeling being on the team for the start of the season. Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Trying to get settled into NY.

Good Luck Phil….You looked good yesterday..Bring home a championship for the old stadium..
3rd
Good luck tomorrow Phil! Are you catching any of the Nats/Braves game tonight?
Phil, I wish you and your fellow yankees the best of luck in 2008. May you keep your ball low in the zone and you will achieve victory
Good Luck Tomorrow Phil! Time to PLAY BALL!!! I am excited for the season so I can only imagine what you guys go thru.
Phil I wish you and all the Yankees good luck this year. I cant wait to watch live Yankee Baseball this year!!!
I can’t wait either and I can’t imagine what a player feels like though. I’ll be there Thursday!
Best of luck this season Phil!
is anyone dithcing school/ work tomorrow to watch the game? lol
Opening Day is the best day of the year Phil! Good luck tomorrow and for your first start this season.
Good luck Thursday, Phil!
Hey Phil. I wish you the best of luck this season. I’m really looking forward to watching you guys this year. I’m born and raised in the Bronx…so this is a really special season for me being the last year of the stadium…hoping you can bring home the 27th world championship for us!
Thanks for your posts, you’re definitely a cool dude.
Good luck this year phil! im leaving my class early tomorrow to make sure i see the whole pregame show and game but yea i just found out im going to a game next week…was wondering if you do autographs before the game cause im gonna be there haha best of luck!
GO YANKS!
Good luck this season Phil!
mm7ny was kind enough to give tickets out to Thursdays game in your previous post so I’ll be going and I can’t wait to see you pitch and cheer you on! (hope you’re still scheduled to pitch Thursday)
Phil-
Make sure you soak it all up and have a blast.
Just remember that as magical as the feeling will be tommrow, it won’t compare to taking the mound in New York City for the last World Series in Yankee Stadium.
Let’s get it done in 2008.
GO YANKEES!!!
Goodluck on Thurs. Phil!
It’s like Christmas Eve!! Opening Day baby. Gotta love it.
Gotta also love the fact that Girardi is going with Cano in the 6 hole. Would love to see Robbie put up a .315 average, 20-25 home run, 40-45 doubles, 100 runs, 100 RBI, 200 hits and stellar defense type season.
Phil, I haven’t seen you pitch ALL spring on YES which really sucked. Can’t wait for your 1st start. 15 Wins in 08 baby. Bring it Franchise.
Yankees Baby.
Can’t wait for the season to start. Good luck this season Phil.
I am freakin psyched for this season…
By the way… that YES interview with Ian and Joba where they said you went from ‘Hughes’ to ‘dork/nerd’ (something like that) was one of the greatest/funniest things I’ve seen in my life…
Phil – would you consider yourself a “nerd” , especially among the baseball guys? It’s not like you went to college like they did…
Do you live in the city, or do you do the suburbs, and drive to the stadium thing?
Sweet, just bought some tickets for your start for Thursday’s game…any insider info on where you’ll be signing autographs? =)
Good luck this year Phil. . . I cannot imagine how excited you and the rest of the team must be . . .try and get some rest as its a long season! Did you catch Ryan Zimmerman’s walk-off HR just now! How cool for him.
I have a feeling that you, IPK and Joba are going to be better than anyone ever imagined – no pressure!
see you in Chicago!
I’m taking the afternoon of tomorrow to watch Opening Day. It’s a yearly tradition with my buddy and I. A day of beer, steak, and baseball. Might even mix in a celebritory cigar.
Here’s to the Yankees closing the Stadium in style!
good luck, hope you have a great ’08. bring home the trophy
I am so ready for tomorrow, too bad I will miss half of the game b/c of class. Hope you are getting used to the chilly weather up there. Thanks for the update, and good luck this week- we’re rooting for you 🙂
Tomorrow is a special day at the Stadium. Enjoy it and lets get ready to bring a championship back where it belongs. Have a great start this week.
Do you have your own place or do you share with Ian or someone.
Grats on the latest start, If you can do that on a consistent basis things will be fine.
My parents are letting me skip school so I get to watch the game.=]
Where are the contests? You showed us all these prizes but no contests.
Hey Phil! Good luck tomorrow, hoping to see you pitch in person sometime this season.
good luck phil!
manimal529, same here! I’m glad I’m not the only die-hard Yankee fan whose missing school to see the game. I mean it’s a historic day, so I don’t feel too bad 🙂
I can’t wait to start the season! The final opening day at Yankee Stadium…gonna be great! Good luck & Go Yankees!!
Good luck this season Phil!!

We’re all really pumped for tomorrow too phil, you boys need to represent! I’m going to the game saturday, bummed I’m missing your start but lets go yanks!
I’m so frickin pumped; I can’t imagine how you guys feel. So did you decide to go for it and get a City apartment after all this year?
Opening day should be amazing, Phil. I can only imagine how awesome the pre-game intros must be for the players (especially the young guys).
I’m really upset I’m gonna miss it. 😦
Best of luck this year! Of course, we’ll be behind you all the way. 🙂
Good luck this year, cant wait to see you pitch. its been a LONG time since ive been excited to watch a pitcher pitch for the yankees.
I’ve got a test during the game but hopefully I’ll catch the rest of it
Have a great season, Phil.
i’m starting halladay on my fantasy team, i’m just hoping for a low scoring game
Good luck this year Phil.
Good luck Phil! I’m sure you’ll be great 🙂
best of luck with the new season!!!! I’ve got class during the game tomorrow, but hopefully i’ll be able to catch the end!
Hey Phil
Please don’t apologize – it’s definitely not necessary. You kind of have important things going on in your life – any time you spend here is a bonus!
Good Luck – this is just the first of many successful seasons you will have in pinstripes!
Break a leg Phil! And you’re right arm! ^_^
OK don’t break anything. I hope you pitch well. Just not well enough to win the division ^_^ >.< 😀 🙂
This is the year we really take it all , good luck!!!!!!!!!! :}
Definitely excited for the year to start and for opening day, was able to get free tickets last night so I’ll see you there Phil.
Can’t wait for tomorrow, pray that it doesn’t rain! Was great seeing you pitch down in Tampa. I wish you all the best this season, looking forward to seeing you pitch again in New York!
Definitely skipping school tomorrow and watching Wang out duel the doc on Sportsnet.
I can’t wait to get this season going and bring 27 to New York.
I’m so excited..for me here in Hawaii the game starts at 7am. Hope Wang can get the jitters out of the way and pitch like the ace he is.
Hope Halladay bombs since the Jays tried to keep him away from the Yanks during Spring Training as if it was a covert operation..oh well we’re hours away from opening day.
Have a great season!! Can’t wait to see you pitch on Thursday!!
Good Luck this season!!!
Best of all luck Phil and the whole Yankee Organization. Prayers will be with you.
And Continue to do your best.
From the Philippines with love.
Good luck Phil!! Let’s go get #27!!!
I will be leaving soon and head to the ballpark! Openind Day here I come! Good Luck Phil…I will also be at the stadium for your start on Thursday. LET’S GO YANKEES!!!

Don’t worry about us, Phil — just take care of yourself! We are grateful for any form of communication – thanks for reaching out to the fans with this blog!
Best of luck to you, and blessings on you and the Yankees this season!
Oh yeah, enjoy Opening Day – soak it all in — and GO YANKEES!
On my way to the ballpark. Let’s hope Mother Nature co-operates.
Enjoy Opening Day Phil.
In my opinion you should never have to apologize if a few days go by without a new post. Most of us understand the busy life you lead as a Yankee’s starter and appreciate any time that you can share with us more than you know!!! You read it all the time but thanks for starting this blog and for letting all of us into a little part of the life of Phil Hughes.
Let’s go Yankees!!
I’m getting ready to leave for Opening Day ….it’s finally here …YIPEEEEEEEEEE !!!!! The only sad thing is it’s the FINAL Opening Day in THE YANKEE STADIUM ….I guess I’ll have to get use to it …sob sob
Here’s to the start of a FANTASTIC SEASON for the YANKEES…especially Mr. Hughes …GOOOOOOO Phil …GOOOOOOO Yankees !!!!
Happy Opening Day EVERYONE !!!!!
Go Yankees 2008 !!!!!
Happy opening day!!
WISHING YOU THE BEST PHIL,ALSO SEEN YOU GETTING ON THE BUS NICE SUIT
YES…FINALLY!!! I’m so excited. Words of advice Phil…
1. Go out in your first start, and pitch a complete game shutout.
2. When you face the Red Sox for the first time, drill Manny in the head, give him a dirty look, and then strike out 10 Red Sox to show them you mean business.
And Finally…
3. Realize that I’m joking, and you really shouldn’t do suggestion #2…not the first part anyway. If you manage to get #1 done, you’ll make 56,000 friends immediately.
Good luck Phil!
Good luck Phil!
Wow, I put “Good luck Phil!” twice, not sure how that happened.
I’m going to watch it on YES. I’m pumped right along with you. Tell Justin not to blow any of the games for you! hehe
I’ve been waiting a long time for today to come! Can’t wait to listen to the game! Good luck this season and good luck on your start Thursday Phil!
– mh
mrsvickid, I still have the 2 tix to the April 6 game (Phil’s start) availalable for you. If you want them go look in the last thread for info on how to claim then. If I don’t hear from you by midnight EST tonight (Monday) I’m going to offer them to the next person in line so that the tickets don’t go to waste.
Good luck this season Phil! I leave for the stadium in a minute and am looking forward to it!!! Go Yanks!
Great post SSCLEMSONYANKEES!!!!!!!!!!! Phil, after you drill Manny, drill Ortiz next so there is no question it was on purpose. And forget about 56,000 friends,it will be in the millions.
Enjoy every moment today!!! The very last opening day at the stadium, I can’t believe it! It seems like forever since ST started this year. I am so excited for this afternoon!
Best of luck Phil!
Good luck Hughes!! were all rootin for you.
Listen for someone yelling obnoxiciously for you and about the blog April 5th during BP, cuz i’ll be there. hahaha
see you then hopefuly
Phil,
Please don’t worry about the blog. If you worry about strikes everything will be fine.
All the best to you and all the Yankees, Phil.
I have the DVR set for the game and luckily my boss is a Yankees fan, so I will get to watch a bit during work 🙂
Good luck this season! GO YANKEES!
mm7ny – i e-mailed you… will take the tix for the april 3 game! thanks!
should be a great game hope the yanks can get a win for the last opener . at yankee stadium
Good luck this year in the last year at Yankee Stadium. Make it memorable!
Good luck on the season, Phil! I can’t wait to watch the games. I’m especially looking forward to your start on Thursday. Go Yanks!
Hey Phil, Good luck this afternoon. I’m watching right now but it’s in a delay so that must be boring. What types of things do you guys do to pass the time when you’re in a delay or especially on days that your not pitching?
Phil,
Good luck on Thursday.
Last year at the Stadium.
New Manager best three young pitchers in the game.
New era at the Yankees.
Best fan base !!!
Perfect for a World Series Ring this year.
Lets go phil, make us proud.
btw where r u staying? uptown, downtown, midtown?
Rain delay, bummer. Oh well make the best of taking a day off.
I was all excited about Opening Day and here we are in a rain delay! Yuck! But weather looks like it’s improving so I’m holding my breath waiting to see what happens. Rain, rain go away. I want to see the Yankees play! LMAO
I’m excited about this season can’t wait 2 watch. I have a lot of red sox friends that say Yankees r the underdog you’ll have 2 show them what the 3 amigo can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
goodluck this season.. cant wait to come to some games 🙂
Aw man so bummed about today!
i knew that would happen, missing the game because of class tomorrow night 😦
Bummer about the rain today. Though I’m a little glad, because I have tomorrow off and can actually watch the entire game.
At least it was rain though, could have been worse; snow, freezing rain, hail. Stuff that would be a bit harder to get rid of before the game tomorrow. It’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow… but still rain in the forecast.
Yo Phil- Please allow me to introduce myself… I’m a 26 year old finance professional from Murray Hill, Manhattan (grew up in NY) and a life-long Yankee fan. I saw the Kim Jones interview during the rain delay (took the day off to watch the opener) and decided to check out the blog- pretty cool idea. My buddy, (name included in my email to you), is the director of fan services, so I see some of the team here and there.
Please do not hesitate to let me know there are any questions that you may have about NY (dealing with NY fans & media, things to do, nightlife, restaurants, stores, neighborhoods, etc…). I figure the vets are getting up there in age and probably are not out and about in the city so much anymore!
A quick piece of advice (from the perspective of a knowledgeable NY fan) is to stay focused on the field, play to the situation, and not to worry about what anyone but the Yankees staff thinks. The fans will judge you based on one thing- your performance/production relative to what they believe your potential is. Making the best out of what you have is big- that’s why Jeter is a baseball god, and deservedly so.
I’m definitely happy about the leadership right now with Joe G., Jete, George, Andy, Mo, and Moose. I attend about 20-25 games a year so I’m actually a bit upset about the new stadium being built- it would be cool if that issue was mentioned more in the media.
Take care and good luck on this season… in all seriousness, its time we get #27!
Best,
Greg
I was so excited for the game today, I hate when weather is a factor. Good luck this season Phil!!
oh man! i was all pumped up for the game today, i missed school to watch it. it sucks but i know this will be a very memorable season. good luck. luv ya!
phil, your so great writting to all of us fans. thanks so much.
Too bad about the rain, now let’s take it out on the Jays when you get on the field. At least it’s not snowing though
Good luck this year Phil. I hope you can pick up 15 wins and have an era of 3.75. That would be a great year . Then have a couple of victories in post season play. Thanks for setting up this site.
ohhh im pumped too!!! too bad the game was rained out.=[ but theres always tommarrow. this season is going to be a blast!
Wow…Its spelled “tomorrow”. But that’s New York schooling I guess…
Let’s all be civil, now.
just got home from the rain out but was in the stadium early to see you in the pen..I was the kid who yelled to you about your web blog n you gave me a point….highlight of the day but I’m looking forward to 2mro night…Go Yanks…
To Ben Hamblen and all Yankee fans – It has come to my attention that you, Ben Hamblen do not like it when I correct a young man’s grammar and then proceed to poke fun at New York’s schooling system, and for that, I apologize. Truthfully, I do not even know how New York schooling ranks among the other 49 states. It is also extremely unfair to base an entire state’s schooling on one poorly spelled word (albeit the attempted word was not even close to the correct spelling). So once again, I am truly sorry. Go Sox.
Bosoxwschamps: I’m not one to be confrontational, but what are you doing on here, if not to discuss baseball? You seem intelligent enough to answer that question.
He apologized, its over. Just keep in mind though, not all Yankee fans are stupid, just like I wonder if there are any smart Red Sox fans. Consider Yankees Empire isn’t just in NY as ‘Red Sox Nation’ isn’t just people in Massachusetts either.
On the bright side of the game being cancelled, at least we should be one of the few games on.
Good luck man to bad today got rained out.
phil i was at the game today and it wasnt even raining at certain points. the worst points of the day were drizzles. u guys honestly couldnt play in that?
Good luck tomorrow in the new official opener!
Hey bosoxwschumps, the last time I checked this was a baseball blog not an English blog!
nyyank fan, it would be a grammar blog, not english
Thanks baseballmanxc, for having my back. And to answer brianna24’s question, its because I have a passion for baseball, and I realize that even though Phil is a Yankee, that is no reason to hate a player. I respect Phil and what he does and I love to hear what professional ball players have to say, before it gets convoluted by the media. Cheers!
hey phil, i know the rainout doesnt affect you much, as you will still pitch on thursday. but anyways, how difficult is it to be in Chein Ming Wang’s position today. Especially for him coming off a tumultuous post and off season im sure he was fired up to put that behind him and pitch this season. Is it tough to gear up to pitch two consecutive days like that?
dam the cancling of the game was horribled
just got home from the rain out but was in the stadium early to see you in the pen..I was the kid who yelled to you about your web blog n you gave me a point….highlight of the day but I’m looking forward to 2mro night…Go Yanks…
Bummer….the game was rained out but I’ll be there tomorrow night (thankfully I don’t have to tell my boss I need another day off). In truth…as much as I wanted them to play I would have hated to see anyone get hurt on the first day of the season. Also if the game started both Wang and Halladay would have lost a start if the game wasn’t official. I was at the Stadium 9:30 am and it felt so great to be back at my home away from home. The new stadium is truly amazing now that it is finally forming and looks so weird just across the street from THE Yankee Stadium…two stadiums side by side. There is PLENTY of All Star and Stadium commemorative items in all the stores.
Anyway …we just have to wait till tomorrow night to see our Yanks get that first win out of the way… 🙂
Phil …as far as the blog goes…first and foremost just go out and do your best to help us to Championship 27. If you have some spare time you know we always love to read anything you have to write and as always thank you for even thinking of your fans in this great way.
Go Wang …GOOOOOOOOOO Yankees 2008 !!!!!
Was SO looking forward to the game, particularly as Texas lost yesterday . Stupid weather.
Super bummed about the rain-out…but now I have 2 televised games in a row to look forward to before I’m relegated to watching the Pirates play (man does it stink being in the middle of PA)! I did actually like seeing Detroit lose to KC, so it wasn’t an entirely wasted day. Good luck on Thursday!
I was at the stadium..awful weather conditions. I will be there again tonight! One thing: I do think it’s awful that a fan has to pay for parking, pay for the food, the souvenirs and have the game be washed out. I know it’s all part of the business….but maybe the Yankees should let u know earlier. I think they want you to go there and empty out your wallet knowing full well that the game was going to be rained out.
Looking forward to tonight. Best of luck for the season and the road to #27.
hey bosox,
not everyone on here is even from america, so they may not be best at spelling.
that being said, good luck this season and F the sox
I agree with the “F The Sox” comment, or maybe he would feel better if we spelled it out? Sorry that we Yankee Fans dont spell so well, he have been busy winning championships for the past 90 years, as opposed to the last 3 or 4.
I think its fitting that Yankee Stadium has its OWN opening day, instead of sharing with the other teams!
LETS GO YANKEES!!!!!
The road to 27 begins tonight!
Best of luck Phil!
so disapointed the game was rained out! Good luck this season Phil! I will be there satuday! Cant wait to watch tonite!
Hey Phil,
Can we get a CONTEST going here to….
PICK A SONG FOR JOBA WHEN HE ENTERS A BALL GAME (i.e. Enter Sandman for Mariano)??? Can we start a new thread for that??
Thanks Phil. Best of luck in your first start!!
Phil–
Go get em Thursday.
Good luck man!!! sorry about the rain out, but I hope you guys are ready to bring it because you know we, the fans, will this year!
Tell A-Rod we don’t care what Jose says and we just want him to be the guy he was last year!
i’m a yankees fan through and through and thus, i do not like the redsox.. however, this blog really isn’t the place for “f the sox” comments – we’re classier than that, aren’t we?
phil started an awesome thing here – let’s not turn it into a forum for mudslinging… there are TONS of forums/groups on myspace for that, LOL…
You’re my boy, Phil! I can’t wait to see in November when you’re known as the 2008 Cy Young winner! Go get ’em Phil!
I’m going to the game on Thurs. and looking forward to seeing you pitch the Yanks to a victory. Best of luck to you and the Yankees this year!
Can’t wait to see you pitch.. Enjoy every moment!
even though I’ve been born and raised a diehard Orioles fan here in Baltimore and I’ve always been taught to hate the Yanks, I still enjoy watching talented players play a game I love….you’ve got amazing stuff dude so just keep working as hard as you did to get there and we’ll be mentioning you as a perennial Cy young candidate and all-star before you know it….I do a few experts level fantasy leagues with writers from the area and roto vets from all over the place and I’ve been telling everyone after my drafts the last month that I could easily see you making a Cy Young run THIS year….best of luck- I look forward to bringing my son to a few games this year to see you battle my O’s here in Camden Yards….take care
Phil, you looked so cute today on TV =)
bet that was an amazing feeling watching the yankees first win!
Life is good. Way to start the season off right!
Life is good. Way to start the season off right!
Why the heck am I crying…because it was an emotional win. First game of the season…I know…but still emotional…besides the XX on my name is for the chromosomes.
YeeHaaaaa The season has started!!!!!!!!!
Great way to start the season with a win! I’ll be at the game Thursday night to root Phil on.
Congrats on the first of many wins this year!! Nice to see you get a great welcome from the fans!
congrats on the win tonight, and good luck on thursday!!!
Hey Phil-
Congrats on the ovation and the win! Great way to start off the season! Good luck starting Thursday!

Great game! Go Yanks…everybody looked good, specially the Melkster!
I was at the game last night..Great to see Justin strike out The Big Hurt! GO YANKEES!
Good luck this season, Phil!
What an intelligent business move this site is. I would do the same thing. Ya gotta make some extra cash be4 you sign the big money baby!
listen! go to it! keep it real on the field, and never never never, let them see you sweat!
all clinches! you’ll do fine my wayward son! its a song!
later Phil, give them hell despite the fact your first name is Phil!
Got get’em today Phil!
Hope you have a great game!
Do u think justin should stay a reliever?
Hey Phil-

Congratulations!! Awesome game tonight!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
Helluva game tonight Phil, very impressive.
Just finished watching your season debut. Awesome job tonight phil. Great command of your fb. Excellent location, hitting spots with movement. Your curve was even better. But everything came off that good fastball. Can’t wait to watch you in person. I missed every start of yours last year, this year will be different.
I’m justa s pumped as you are! Go yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
I’m just as pumped as you are! Go yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
OMG!! I was so excited!!! I was so happy when my boy Melky hit a home run!! You rock Phil just keep remembering that!!
