Was just looking over the schedule. After this series against Tampa we go to Kansas City, Boston, and down to Tampa. Then we come home for 2 games. Then back on the road against Baltimore, Chicago, and Cleveland. I’ve already started packing my suitcase just to make sure I have enough stuff to get through all those days.
Also, The Office is back next Thursday! So excited. I’ve heard about 10 different rumors about what the first episode is going to be about. The anticipiation is killing me. Time to grab some lunch. Talk to you guys later.
Hey Phil, I’ll be at all 3 games in Chicago!! I hope you’re lined up to pitch!!
People at my work were just talking about The Office next week. I can’t wait.
Good luck Phil and thanks for the heads up on the Office. Can’t wait. Saw “Darryl” out at LAX not too long ago when I was traveling on business.
Hey Phil, you are outstanding last night, it was really awesome to see you finally on that Yankee stadium mound again after a scary offseason of wondering what was going to happen. Quick question though, the YES gun had your velocity at 89-91 on the fastball all night, was that accurate because it was really cold or something or was the YES gun slow?
Finally, next week’s office episode is about Michael inviting everyone in the office to his house for a dinner party and he doesnt invite dwight.
Phil,
GREAT game last night! I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting first game of the season to be at! So do you get excited about the long road trips to see different places, or does all the traveling wear you down?
Hey Phil,
You were amazing last night!!! I thought for sure you were gonna pitch a no hitter after the first 3 innings. But still, you put up a great show and kept us in the game even though you didn’t get much run support.
I also can’t wait for the Office. Maybe a good idea for a contest would be to guess what the next Office episode will be about.
Also, other contest ideas could be Yankee stats for a certain game (such as pitching line, total hits, total runs, etc.).
It’s gonna be a great season and I can’t wait till your next start. You rock!!!!
GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
solid start last night phil
Great job last night Phil
You need to check out officetally.com for all your Office needs
Also, quick question:
What’s it like in the dugout during games? Is it all baseball talk or are there some random conversations (perhaps about the Office)?
Great job last night. I wish the bats had woken up a couple of innings earlier so you could have gotten a W out of it. McGowan pitched very well, too.
I can’t wait for The Office! I heard they’re planning a spin-off that’s gonna debut after next super bowl and then play in the spot after The Office at 9:30 in 2009.
I wonder if it’ll be any good…should be interesting. I think it’ll be tough to live up to The Office though
That really is a long stretch of road games. I’m hoping to see you guys up at the stadium at some point this yr (whenever you finally get back).
Nice to hear from you–great job last night!
good stuff last night franchise …keep up the good work
Great game. Unfortunate that the offense couldnt get that run earlier. Great location on your pitches. It is amazing how great it is to see you young guys out there leading this team.
By the way I have you, Joba and IPK on my fantasy team.
Yankee Destiny!
Great game. Unfortunate that the offense couldnt get that run earlier. Great location on your pitches. It is amazing how great it is to see you young guys out there leading this team.
By the way I have you, Joba and IPK on my fantasy team.
Yankee Destiny!
How cool is it that you are young, cool and best of all: playing for the New York Yankees! I think it’s awesome that you are where you are. Thanks for keeping it real and for not letting it get to your head. You are a great role model for kids and adults everywhere. Never change!
The Office is BACK! The wait has been painful, right?
Great outing yesterday… thanks for the fantasy points!!
As everyone said, awesome job pitching last night, Phil.
I’ve been lost without The Office. Thank God it’s coming back.
Loved how uncomfortable you made Frank Thomas look last night! Great start!
Great game last night!! I was so excited to see you pitch, and you did a fabulous job. And, I’m so ready for The Office to come back!!! I’ve heard it’s about Michael inviting Jim & Pam and Angela & Andy over for dinner with him and Jan, but whatever the episode’s about, it’s gonna be hilarious. Can’t wait!
Eat well, young padawan.
You were awesome last night. if you pitch like that all year…damn, the sky is the limit.
Why do the schedule makers hate the yankees so much. I feel like they screw you guys more than any other team in baseball! How do you guys deal with that?
IPK? I thought it was Ike? Which is it again?
Anyway whatever his nickname is, I hope Ian does as great as you did
Hey Phil, great game last night! I was there to see you pitch and it was a strong way for you to start the year. The crowd was really pulling for you and pretty boisterous for just the third game of the year! You gotta love it!
Also, I hope you saw Kevin Keirnan’s article about you in the Post today! Very complimentary!!
IPK = Ian Paul Kennedy, dood.
Hey Phil, great game last night. I hear the new office episode is the office going to michael’s house for a dinner party. what have you heard?
Congrats on the game last night.
Great Game last night the pitch to get Wells was incredible. You don’t see him take many hacks like that. Good luck next time out.
Great job last night!
I am so glad The Office is back next week. I’ve been dying for new episodes!
Great game, Phil! I was at the game and it gave me goosebumps to hear and to yell “HUGES” when you had two strikes. You pitched great! Best wishes!
HUGHES! Sorry!
Great outing last night! I’ll be there to watch Kennedy tomorrow, hopefully he’s as good out there as you were. GO YANKS!
err – I mean Pettite…I think…
Hi Phil,
Great game last night! Nice ‘n crisp! Sure glad you weren’t traded for Santana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You pitched great last night Phil. :o)
Great game. Your curve ball was nasty, and control was sweet. Who thought Joba would get a W before you and Ian? Any bets in the locker room on the 1st win? Keep havin fun and we’ll see you on the road.
You rocked last night! Awesome Awesome!! Road trips must be tough…just don’t forget your iPod!
You probably didn’t see my comment from last night but I mentioned that there’s rumors going around about a spinoff of The Office. Have you heard??http://perezhilton.com/2008-04-02-the-office-spinoff
Phil,
You need to check out http://www.officetally.com
It’s all inside info on the office.
I heard the same things about the office–that Michael and Jan invite everyone over but only Jim and Pam come. Sounds like good-old fashioned office awkardness.
Good game last night Phil!
question: what type of bear is best?
cant wait for the office, its def gonna be a good season
last night was really good game. i was FREEZING sitting up top in the tier box but it was all worth it with a good win. i took many photos and ill post em up here of yourself later on
I’ll be at two of the games in Baltimore! 🙂 I cannot wait!!
You looked great out there last night Phil, keep up the good work. Too bad you didn’t pick up the win, but I’m sure you’ll pick up quite a few this season.
Good luck on the road. Kansas has been pretty hot to start this season. Take it to them.
http://respectjetersgangster.blogspot.com
Phil, great game last night.
I saw some previews last night for the Office next week. Looks like Michael and Jan are hosting a dinner party at their condo. Looks hilarious.
the new episode is called dinner party — heres a clip from it.
Phil, whenever you throw your curve, your right index finger at the top of the ball is visible when you come out of the glove. You might be tipping that pitch down the road.
Congrats on an awesome performance last night.
You did ok. Still not the velocity I would like to see from a “cant miss” prospect and you tend to fall in love with your curveball, thus overusing it and hanging it but all in all not bad. I was glad to see Joba get the win as he is truly “cant miss.”
Very excited about going to the Tues15April game vs. the Devil Dogs!!
Anyone else going to that game?
Great job last night Phil. It is hard to believe you are only 21, you are so cool and collected out there. Hopefully next time you get some earlier run support!
Good luck to you and the rest of the team on the road trips, too bad they are not someplace warm (except for Tampa).
New episodes of 30 Rock too.
You piched and looked amazing last night :} good luck on the next start !!!
Great job last night Phil. Keep it up!
Great game last night Phil! I am excited about The Office next week as well. It’s too bad they aren’t going to work Angela’s pregnancy into the show. Imagine a little Schrute or Andy walking around! That would be great. Here’s to continued success!
Phil – great job last you and your bullpen – everyone looked great. It must feel pretty good to have the support behind you and offensive lineup. Good luck on the road trip!
Phil,
Way to get the new season off on the right foot with a crisp start.
Since you are going to be on the Road and nex Thursday is a night game, when will you get to watch “The Office”?
It feels like forever since weve gotten a new one.
Good Luck on your start in KC.
You better beat Greinke..(I think that is who you are matched up against.)
Great game last night Phil, I can’t get over all the weight you’ve lost. I guess I should find out what you did and follow the same routine lol. Looking forward to watching you guys win another series !
Great game last night…you seem to have excellent control…keep up the good work! If you can hang in a good percentage of your games the way you did last night your lineup is going to take care of the rest…continued success
Cpt15
Great job last night Hughes!
im comin to the Stadium 2morrow!! and prolly again come summer time.
Great game! And I hope you get a chance to watch The Office next week! Can you TiVo or DVR it? The marathon of the last 4 episodes last night was pretty great, but made waiting for next Thursday even harder!
Good game last night, I’m def proud of you. The Office’s first show is about a dinner party at Mike’s house. I seen a clip last night where Dwight was mad cause he wasn’t invited. I’m pumped they are finally back to.
Nice job pitching last night in relatively cold conditions. Must not be easy for a California native.
I’m on season 2 of The Office. I guess I have to hurry up and get through 2 and 3 before next Thursday. lol
Which of those places will you enjoy playing in most? Getting some early season revenge in Cleveland would be great?
be careful on the road phil– stay close to yor friends and watch out of oppertunistic people…. can’t wait to see you all in Pittsburgh at the end of June
phil – awesome game last night! it was so great to see you pitch!
do you actually get to “enjoy” any of the places you travel to when you guys are on the road?
Hey Phil. Great game last night! You looked good out there (and I was really glad my friend let me use his mlb.tv subscription so I could watch your first start of the year).
Keep up the good work! And don’t forget to enjoy yourself on the road trip (just don’t get into any trouble! ha ha)
And my friends are excited about the return of “The Office.” One of them even has a countdown of the days left until its return up on her door!
Oh, and here’s a random question for you, since you talk music every once in a while. Do you like Sister Hazel? They’re playing at my university in May, and I’m probably going to go… so I was just wondering if you liked them.
Nice job on your first start of what will be many this season
Phil you pitched great last night. I can’t wait until Micheal and Jan have their dinner party next week.
i think you’re going to need a pretty big suitcase! good job yesterday, it looked SO cold out there… quite a change from FL. weather. Thanks for the post!
Great game, Phil!
Phil terrific effort last night. I thought you were squeezed big time by the home plate ump. Fastball was crisp and location was great, great breaking ball too. Looking forward to your next start in KC and tell Justin not to change a thing when he k’s someone.
Phil — I saw the trailers for this week during the reruns last night. It’s Michael and Jan hosting a dinner party (for couples — so Dwight is not invited, with predictable results) with Angela/Andy and PB&J in attendance.
Great pitching last night — keep up the good work!
Nice start last night Phil, keep up the good work.
http://aroundthemajors.blogspot.com/
phil,
great game last night! waiting for your next start had felt like an eternity. I’m looking forward to your next start!
great game phil. keep up the good work
Great game last Phil! Keep ’em coming!
Just make sure you got enough socks and underwear, dude.
Hey phil, great performance last night. You’re curve was electric in the middle innings there and your location was mostly spot on.
As for next week’s office, it’s about Michael inviting everybody over for dinner except for Dwight and him and Jan fighting the entire night because of what happened at the deposition. Here’s the description from TVGuide.com:
“Jan and Michael host a dinner party. On the guest list are Jim and Pam, who have run out of excuses to avoid such a gathering, and Andy and Angela, a pairing that sends Dwight’s jealousy soaring to new heights.”
What a beautiful game you pitched last night. You hit the corners, you made your breaking stuff work extremely well, and best of all not one ball was hit hard. If you continue to pitch that way you will be a 20 game winner and an era under 3.00. What a great feeling it msut be to have such a wonderful start to the year. I thought the team played well and both startimng pitchers pitched good ball games.
I wish you the best of luck and your skill will do the rest.
AMAZING job last night phil.
Now you can brag that you struck out a 500+ hr hitter and made him ejected for being so nasty.
Great game last night Phil!!!!
Hope you can catch the office while you’re on the road!
Great job again last night! You were awesome!
Hopefully I will see you tonight at the stadium!
Hey Man,
Good luck out their in the upcoming weeks
By the way, you pitched great last night, keep it up
Hey Phil, I was at the game last night. You pitched great!
I have some pitcures of you pitching last night, would you like them?
hey brother great outing last night!!
it set me back on some stuff i had to do, but it was worth seeing you beast up those jays
thanks for the sick blog
hope to see you at at least a few bp’s this year!
have a good one
Phil, great game last night.. Love the at bat against Thomas that first pitch breaking ball was awesome, just to see his knee jerk like that.. Good stuff.. Anyways good luck on this up coming road trip. and tell Justin to keep pumping those fist..
Phil great start you have a bright future and the fans here love you young guns….have a safe road trip n get some W’s….I’m excited about the office too, great show….goodluck phil hopefully see you at the stadium soon.
Make sure you leave enough room in your suitcase for Xbox 360. Or do you not take it on the road?
Btw, phenomenal start last night! As far as I’m concerned, you are the ace of the staff. Time will prove this to be fact!
Phil, GREAT start last night!! Very excited for the rest of the season. I hope you get a start in KC because I will be at those games! They are looking tough though. I hope our offense gets going!
http://www.madein1903.com/forum
Here’s are 2 songs for your road trip….
Willie Nelson…on the road again
Johnny Cash…I’ve Been Everywhere
Hey Huuuuuuuughes!
Good game last night, I cheered you on hardcore from the cheap seats!
Hey Good Game last night. I hope you can catch plenty of the Office. I’m more psyched for Grey’s and House and of course my public speaking class is during House so I’m loving my TiVo right now. I’m giving a Yankee Hall of Fame speech for my historical speech, trying to find Scooter’s, just to make class more fun.
Have fun on the Road,
Becky
great game last night . yah busy schedule comin up no off days for a while
Hey Phil,
You pitched great last night. Giving us a chance to win is all that can be asked for. I’m sure you’ll get a lot more run support this season!
The Boss’s Review of Hughes Last Night..
Hank Steinbrenner likes what he sees in Hughes
Upon exiting Yankee Stadium after the Yankees’ 3-2 win over Toronto last night, Hank Steinbrenner was happy to give a glowing review of righthander Phil Hughes’ 2008 debut. Steinbrenner – who had wanted the Yankees to make an offseason trade for Johan Santana that could have included Hughes – said Hughes was “great” after allowing two runs and four hits in six innings.
“The starter did great, the two middle relievers did great, obviously we knew what to expect from the setup guy and the closer, and everything was like clockwork,” he said, “and Hughes did fantastic.”
Hey Phil,
Great game last night! I don’t have to tell you how good you pitched, you already know that.
The road long trip is coming up, but I’ll be at both Boston games in NY, hope you’ll be on-tap for one of those.
Good luck in KC on Tuesday!!!
Awesome start last night. It would have been nice for you to get the win, but a win is a win…no matter who gets, as long as it favors the Yanks!
Definitely excited about The Office next Thursday. The website has a description of the new episode…it sounds like the Jim/Pam and Michael/Jan dinner date takes place. Should make for some laughs!
Just be sure to kick extra *#s when you are in Boston.
Phil,
Fantastic game last night! Fortunate to see entire Toronto series from the stands. Outside of Opening Day, really looked forward to seeing you pitch. (I was lucky enough to see your 1st start also.) And last night, you were great.
but i dont wanna go against boston i dont like them
I’ve been waiting forever for the office to start back up (and scrubs). Can’t wait.
Phil,
Great game last night, almost the perfect start to a great season. The schedule makers really don’t like the Yankees, 29 games in 30 days, most of which are on the road, and not ending the season at The Stadium but instead in boston.
Going to the game tonight. Hope your boy Ian has just as good of a start.
You guys have a tough schedule ahead but do what the Giants did and do it on the road. 🙂
You looked <strong.PHIL-NOMENOL last night!
And tell Joba we LOVE the fist pump!!!! Keep it up!
Good Job last night.
You were great out there last night, man. Keep up the good work. Team pitching looks great so far, both starters and the bullpen.
Phil you did amazing last night! I can’t say I’ve watched the office but I think I’m going to have to start!
Let’s see baseball is back, the office is back, things are looking pretty good. Have you actually purchased the sets and watched the outtakes??? Love those too.
Fact: Bears can climb faster than they can run.
Dayanks, i agree. Also gotta love the commentaries. the season 1 ones are the best. John K., steve, jenna, Rainn, all there. Good stuff. Cant wait for the new stuff.
Awesome pitching last night! I was lucky enough to be there! Hopefully Pettitte will be as great tomorrow!
Enjoy the road trip. See you in Baltimore!
good job last night phil………best of luck in the upcoming games! Go Yankees!!!!
Hey Phil, great game last night!! keep it up…great start to the season!! by the way, that pitch to the Big Hurt was nassstttyyy…lol
Great job last night Phil! Would have loved if the guys put those runs up earlier to get you a win, but I’ll take a Joba win too… heck, any win leaves no room for complaints.
I’ll be at the games in Chicago, hopefully things will hold the way they are and you get to throw the last game there. Keep working hard!
Hopefully, Ian knocks the Rays down tonight… and gets them out too. 🙂
great game last night phil!
keep up the good work.
good luck this year!
Sounds like a fun road trip to me! Don’t forget extra memory cards and your battery charger for your Rebel so you can take lots and lots of pictures!
I’m going to check out the Office since you swear it’s the best thing ever. I’m telling you though, you gotta check out 30 Rock! 🙂 Have a good evening Phil.
I’m just wondering, is Phil Hughes done signing TTM for the year? I sent a ball out on 2/28 because I thought he said he was going to sign during Spring Training. Spring Training has now past… Will I ever receive the ball back: signed or even unsigned?
I hope you like Hotel Food. What about we check the room service menu’s for egg salad !!!
You pitching was incredible last night Phil.
great pitching performance last night man! What a great series with the Jays, just great!
and I’m stoked for the Office return, i’m think something big is going to happen between Jim and Pam, maybe a break-up is in the near future…it seems as if Jim hasn’t been feeling Pam much in the last episodes before the strike. We’ll see…
You pitched fantastic last night. Enjoy the road trip.
Kevin

Phil, when packing dont forget dental floss, sunscreen and crisp stack of unmarked non-sequential $20’s.
great game last night! and the office! definitley excited
You were great yesterday Phil! Keep it up 🙂
hey phil…great game last night-especially in the northeastern weather!!! good luck on the road!
GREAT outing last night philly franchise
Your curve looked unbelievable thats impossible to hit
Keep up the good work and can you discuss some more baseball on the blog?
thanks
josh
Phil, Did you get one of the Bobby shirts that Long gave out last night?
hey Phil! Great job last night!!
great job last night phil your stuff was nasty, vernon wells thomas and rios had nothing on you the fast ball was electric and your curve was insane! keep it buddy and we could see some cy youngs in your future!!
Great outing last night Phil. Keep working hard. It is certainly paying off.
Phil,
I was at the game last night and was glad to see a solid start from you. The Yanks are on the road most of April but July is when you guys are home for most of the month. Tonight’s game has been ugly.
i watched your game last night, great job , hope you or ian kennedy pitch against the firts boston game, because they know pettite wang and musina way to much and know their pitching styles and you two would be a good change of styles
first two games*
Phil you pitched a great game I just wish you would of gotten the win, also was at game on friday to watch IPK pitch maybe you guys can get together and show him how it is done. Also they showed your baby picture on the big screen what a cute kid you was Phil.Good luck on the road
you should watch 30 rock too I think its on right efore or after
yeah phil great outing…too bad kennedy didnt do that good but its early we’ll be all rite….
good luck on the next game, hope you pitch a gem. not bad 1st game though.
Too Bad the Royals are gonna sweep you! The powder blue uniforms are back baby! watch out!
IPK got owned so bad. ;-0
First of all, you were amazing in your first start, Phil. You have the makeup of a great pitcher and showed it in that start. Now tell Justin to quit stealing your wins, LOL. But that was just great. Congrats and thank you! Now as for the schedule, the officials in charge of that and Selig can go to h*ll. It is so stacked against the Yankees. Starting you off in cold weather and lining you up with 19, now 20 games in a row. I was looking at some of the other teams and you can see they are not nearly as challenged with this as the Yankees are. Just letting the MLB officials know this is not unnoticed and I’ll now get off my soap box. ; ) Just remember to take Airborne! And go get ’em!
Phil, the one thing that seems clear to me is that the umps seem to be under some sort of mandate to squeeze rookie pitchers, and you and Ian are no exceptions. My theory is they are trying to exert their presumed authority from the start, imposing themselves on the game. If it’s frustrating for us fans to watch, I can only imagine the frustation level for you when the ump is putting you in more and more precarious situation.
Last night, Ian was hosed on a call to the Rays scrub pinch-hitter w/the bases loaded. His next pitch was predictably down-the-middle, for fear of anything on the corners being called a ball. That completely changed the complexion of the game — and spelled doom for Ian.
You must be a pretty composed guy to not blow your top when you aren’t getting the calls. I’d likely flip out & be the guy banished for life for beating an ump.
Good luck Phil. Can’t wait for the new Office episode as well. Something about a dinner party at Michael’s. LOL
Have fun on the road! I’m hitting up the Orioles series at The Yard. Hopefully you’ll pitch one of those games! By the way, you were great on Thursday. I have been waiting so long for new Office episodes that I almost can’t believe it’s coming back on this week! Good luck pitching the rest of April (the schedule is ridiculous)!
i cant wait till u guys come to chicago! hopefully i’ll be able to go to one the games! so excited! i love u phil! wish u the best all season!
Random (very random) thoughts:
-There are a lot of NYers going to the Orioles games to cheer on the Yanks.
-Yes, 30 Rock is GREAT.
-Yes, umps do squeeze youngsters. That’s part of being young. Last night Ike was getting calls against him that could have gone either way and got balls called when Schoenstein was getting strikes called on the same ball.
-Every rookie is going to have his off day (I know that some of you guys are considered rookies anymore but you know what I mean, first few years).
-You’re a rock star Phil…keep on rocking!
-Tell Joba to keep the fist pump and tell Ike to keep the faith, he has the makings of a supa-star!
thndvdsaid, I noticed that 30 Rock comes on before the Office next week, which is strange because I thought it always came on after.
bethnyyfan, I really like your Random thoughts. I agree with everything, especially the 30 Rock mention 🙂 Have a great day everyone and enjoy the game!
Great start Thursday night Phil, just keep on doing what you do best.
Great start Thurs. Phil. It should have only been 1 run you gave up. At least there has been 1 bright spot this week.
Is it me,or are the Yanks getting shafted on the calls?Check swings?stolen bases? but most of all,the umps have squeezed the crap out of the strike zone on all the Yanks pitchers, and are alot more giving to the opposing team.Am i seeing this wrong? Anyone? I cant stand it.
Relax. The Yanks will get their fair share of calls too. If the pitching staff continues to pitch like this, and the bats wake up they are going to win a ton of games. Phil, tell Ohlendorf he looks great. Also, see if he remembers my cousin from princeton: Adam Farren.
Wonderful job Phil and hope more wins …
No, champs26times, it is not just you! The Yanks not only look to being shafted on calls(Ian last night with that umpire who seemed to have a double standard), but as I mentioned that schedule which seems determined to wear the Yankees down and get them all the flu bug to last yr. with Burnett deliberately hitting ARod and not getting tossed to Selig being so quick to suspend Joba for that ridiculous pitch last yr. to this yr. with Melky and Shelley you could somewhat understand but Gomes coming up and starting something and only getting one game. heh I do think there is bias with some of the higher ups in baseball, especially against the Yanks.
you pitched great the other day! the traveling should be good and yay for the office!
love the office and loved that baby picture they showed of you at the stadium yesterday. keep up the good work!
Phil, You were awesome the other night. Keep up the great work. Love watching you pitch! Have fun on the road . Excited about the Office, too. It’s about time for it to be back…just like baseball!
You might actually start packing even earlier than I do. Wow…..
-Alex
Let’s make sure we beat Boston!
Here’s the important question . . . are you going to be near a TV and actually going to be able to watch The Office?
I was directly BEHIND HOME PLATE Thursday night…and you were AWESOME!! I kept checking out the radar gun…..93MPH fastball…and watching your curve ball coming in was pretty sweet….chatted with Rich Monteleone …told him I was only sitting there to see YOU pitch!
I had so much fun watching you pitch and I will be at many, many more games sitting behind the plate to see you pitch!! (Hopefully warmer games…but the cold weather didn’t bother me at all!).
Phil’s hittin’ the road….can’t wait til you guys come up north to play the Canada’s basesball club.
enjoy the trip to KC and tame those upstart Royals!
http://310tojoba.blogspot.com/
One of the reasons the Yankees are on the road is because of the Pope coming to NY.
BUT the biggest shaft is them not ending their season at Yankee Stadium.
I know MLB and Selig hate the Yankees but COMON there has got to be some respect for Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford, Larsen etc etc etc.
Yankee Stadium has been the home to the most REKNOWNED and STORIED franchise is ALL OF SPORTS HISTORY. Not just baseball history. SPORTS HISTORY.
And baseball could not see its way clear to let them end the season at home.
Blasphemy!
Anyway, today’s game was awesome. CMW, Joba and Mo…mighty 1, 2, 3 combination. The pitching is actually doing very well (except Farnsworth and Hawkins…big surpise there!) but the bats need to wake up. They will…they usually go on a tear in the second half.
Nice pitching…although my favorite moment of the weekend was Gomes getting tagged out during a homerun trot. HILARIOUS. Someone said, “He should have run like he was trying to take a swing at Shelley Duncan. Then he would have made it home.” LOL!!!
was searching for fellow baseball blogs and wound up here. had you on my fantasy team last season as a rookie keeper, picked you up 2 years ago, pretty deep league eh? certainly looks like your ready for a big year. good luck to you and your yankee teammates
if everything goes according to plan (no rain outs) it looks as though you’re lined up to start in Boston on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. That should be an easy win against the last place Red Sox (j/k), but saying the last place Red Sox has a nice ring to it.
HI Phil
I’m new to this blog, I remember your debut game… I was watching a telenovela (soap Opera) and i randomly changed my channel to the Yes Network… I remember watching you pitching against Toronto… I was wondering who you were bc i didn;t know much about baseball like i do now… I was saying whats the big deal with this new pitcher? but as the time went by and i began to understan about baseball i realize the effect that a pitcher is for a baseball game.
I love that you are not just a baseballl player but you are like us, having a blog make us reach more…Great Idea after all you are 21 and thats part of our culture!!!
I saw your first game this year, and i must say you were great!! COngrats on your first game… U r part of the new era for the Yankees!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND THE YANKS, CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU PHILLIP!
-CANADA DAY!
I am there tonight Phil! Hope you guys can pull this one through and get a split against those Pesky Rays…I will be there on the 16th against Boston! Hope that is your scheduled start. Come back home with a great road trip…LET’S GO PHIL FRANCHISE!
Have you thought about doing something on the mound that would mean hello to your blog participants? Have you come up with a name for us? Could me something simple with the grabbing of an ear or something like that….
Hey Phil,
I drafted you on my fantasy league last night. You are officially in the starting rotation of “Swan Lane Lager”!
Have a great road trip.
Hey Phil, here’s a very, very interesting article about you:
http://www.dugoutcentral.com/blog/?p=1215
Phil,
Did you see that Steiner is selling your game worn Opening Day (you didn’t even play) jersey for $5,000!?!?!
I love watching you pitch. My family and I are going to the game on April 29th. It will be my dads and sisters first and probably only game at this Yankee Stadium. I can not wait! Have a great season!
Rita
Hey Phil, just wanted to say i was very impressed by your first start this season, so looking foward to the others, I really think this season is going to be a good one. Slow start but it’s ok. Matsui’s HR seemed to take weight off the hitters and they looked much more relaxed at the plate. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the offence, and getting you some run support. any way hope all is well.. good luck on the next start , i’ll be watching
What Music are you listening to today Phil?
What Movies are on your radar to be watched?
Let us know more about what your up to I can watch the TV or look at the Yanks web site to comment on the games.
Have you seen the British Office it is really funny you should get that and take it on your long road trip.
PB
Hey Phil-
Watching the game now and came across your weblog (So awesome that you have one! Thanks for keeping us posted =] ). Just wanted to say thank you and the Yankees for doing what you guys love to do, especially since you’re awesome at it. (Although you guys are killer when trying to do study for my college exams on weeknights! But it’s okay, I can live with that.) Haha, wish you luck for tomorrow’s game. Go get ’em.
Jessica
funsy49, you’ve got to be kidding me. You really trust Mike Pagliarulo? If you knew anything about pitching, you would know that a 21 year old, who pitches above league average, is doing something right. BTW, I wouldn’t give advice, nor comment on velocity if you can’t grasp the game. In fact, I think you should ask Frank Thomas about velocity, and for that matter “location.”
You actually do better on the road, is there a reason why? Good luck today.
Good luck today Phil, I’ll be rooting for you!
Good Luck Today. Tell Jeter to feel better soon and to not drive everyone crazy while he’s out.
Go get ’em in KC today. Will be hard to concentrate at work.
Check out Creed’s blog. Pretty funny stuff. Can’t wait til 4/10. http://blog.nbc.com/CreedThoughts/
Curious- you living in town or in the burbs?
MLB schedule-makers really screwed up your month. How do you guys do laundry on the road for your street clothes? Can you give it to the clubhouse guys or do you have to pay the ridiculous prices at the hotels?
Just two more days ’til The Office! Sweet!
good luck today phil!!!!
Good luck today!!
Best of luck today, Phil!
Should be a good game 😀
good luck today phil
Hey phil, i remember a long time ago you posted on beckett pictures of you signing the swete spot autos. I got a dual today from UD (redemption redeemed in december) of you and felix hernadez. My 2nd auto of you!
Good luck Phil!
Yo Phil….as much as I love the Yankees, you need to forget about this blog and concentrate on pitching.
I’m watching the game now…they just pulled you…Betemit sucks at Short…and Abreu messing up didn’t help matters….the fielders need to have their heads in the game. Posada had good throws but Betemit was clueless how to catch and tag…..UUGGHH! –Can’t wait for Jeter to return….
Rough start for Phil. Didn’t locate his pitches and didn’t look like himself. Hopefully the Yankees can fight back and win the game. Phil needs to review videos to see what he was doing wrong today. I am sure he will rebound in his next start.

Hey Phil~
It amuses me greatly to read what others write…trying to give you advice on how to pitch, what to work on, etc.
To those who feel the need to TRY and give advice to Phil: HE actually PLAYS Major League Baseball..and for the YANKEES…..the “advice givers’ DO NOT. ENOUGH SAID.
Hey Lame-o. Better luck next time. ….not that you need it. It wasn’t half bad. Doesn’t help when the hitters don’t hit.
But its nasty in KC so I don’t blame you for not having your best day. Beautiful here of course 🙂 Haha
Much love man ❤
is it me or do these damn umps suck so far this year? totally biased strike zones!! I’m so angry
Thanks for the effort today, Hughes! It’s good to get a bad one under your belt early on–just ask Kennedy 😉
I hope you don’t beat yourself up too much–we fans have complete confidence in you (and Kennedy, too, for that matter). Come what may, i think this season is going to be even more fun to witness than last year. Can’t wait to see your next start!
I agree that Ian is a finesse pitcher and was getting robbed the other night. Phil did have some calls go against him but he wasn’t locating. Young pitchers are not going to get the calls but they’re esp not getting them on the opposing team’s opening day.
Phil is a young pitcher who has ace potential. Everyone has bad days. This was his.
What I DID like was Joe Girardi barking at the umps. That is fire that has been missing in the Yankee dugout. THANK YOU JOE GIRARDI!
I was watching the game this afternoon and right before your first pitch Kenny Singleton mentioned that you are the youngest starting pitcher in the Majors. So rough start today but the umpires interesting interpretation of the strike zone and the defense behind you didnt help. What I am saying though is youngest pitcher in the Majors…accomplishment I think so! ❤
Hello Phil,
It is a long season and the weather will get warmer. We know you will get there. Even when you did not have great command you still hung in there. No doubt you will have more good days than bad days.
http://welovetheyankees.blogspot.com/
Hey Phil,
You’re the awesomest! Chin up, ok?
It was kind of a weird game all around, but you managed to keep the team in it while you were pitching. I have no doubt your stuff will be back to normal soon.
What happens in Kansas City, stays in Kansas City (haha…probably the 1st time anyones ever said that…) 😉
Phil – I agree with everything written above. The fact that you hung in there and battled makes me optimistic for the rest of this year, you know, when it’s not 35-40 degrees out!
Aww… See Phil? Your loyal fan base still adores you.
I hope you’re physically ok. Be sure to bundle up. Go get them in Fenway!
hey there, so you got that out of the way. better earlier than later. don’t worry about it though, it’s only the very beginning of the season. and seriously, yall couldn’t let the royals lose their home opener, wouldn’t have been right 🙂 go listen to jack johnson-he can seriously take your mind off of anything. you still have like a trillion people supporting you!
30 more starts just like this one, phil.
I’m not worried about the young guns. Ian, Phil and Joba will all struggle this year. We know that and we knew that when we campaigned against a trade of Phil or Ian for Johan. They all have superstar potential and we all know it and support them. Ollie is a good reliever and was roughed up yesterday as well. It just wasn’t the Yankees day. The trip was long, they played the night before and it’s cold in KC. Though, ironically, it’s now warm in NY.
I am worried about Jorge and Jeter. I think that moving Arod to short would be a good move if Jete is going to be out an extended period and move Ensberg to 3rd (his fielding at 1st is not great). Molina is good behind the plate and his bat seems to be hot but he’s not a healthy Jorge. I hope this is just spring aches and pains.
Still I love my Yankees!
Hi Phil,
It was a tough game for you. You didn’t have the control, the strike zone was ALL OVER THE PLACE, and you were playing with a team that was a bit tired. So things didn’t work out tonight…..move on, right?
One thing though, runners on second were timing your delivery. You have to look back at various intervals to keep them honest. Far be it from me to be a pitching coach but that is what I saw watching the game. 😉
tough game, you will get them next time 🙂 Its early days and the Yankees have a rough travelling schedule. Who could believe the Orioles would be in 1st place!
no big deal Phil, just 1 game early in the season. I still always feel this 1st month is almost extended spring training. We started off slow last year too, you’ll bounce back next time.
Go Yankees!
nyy4life – He doesn’t look back with the runners on 2nd because he knows that they are no threat to run. While it is true that the runners would get less of a jump off 2nd on a ball hit into play, it takes away from his main concern in getting the hitter out. If he starts looking runners back and getting out of his rhythm, it can be detrimental towards getting hitters out.
P.S. THE OFFICE TOMORROW
hey phil, listen bro, thanks for giving it all you had yesterday, keep pitching man, we’re all behind you
Phil, that was a tough game. Your DC fan contingent was feeling for you. What’s important is that it happened now, not later. We will be in Boston at the game Sunday and will be cheering you on… even though we may get harassed in the process… 🙂 Dress warmly, Fenway’s even less welcoming this time of year than usual!
1 rough start early on is nothing…It certainly didn’t help that the ump had a microscopic strike zone (though Phil will never admit that) but anyways….
Phil will bounce back strong….his velocity/command will be back to where they were by the end of ST (low ->mid 90’s) and he’ll soon begin embarrassing ML hitters the way he did throughout the MiL….
Didn’t Phil get off to a rough start in AA Trenton?? How’d that turn out 😉
good game last night to bad the ump had a floating strike zone
sorry about last night. i still think you pitched a pretty great game, three runs isn’t terrible at all. Just sucks that the umpire’s strike zone was the size of a peanut.
but the good news is that THE OFFICE IS BACK tomorrow! Its been 5 redonkulously long months and its unhealthy how much i’ve missed this show. i love so much about the things it chooses to be.
are you pitching this Sunday in Boston? that should be fun! good luck this seasoN!
bet you’re pumped about the office tomorrow!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCoGKkk_njg Phil, go back and watch this. Your delivery was quicker and your velocity was 5 MPH faster.
derekpeter, seriously…. you are a moron.
Best line of The Office so far:
“You have no idea the toll that having 3 vascetomies takes on a person.” ~ Michael Scott
From Chad Jennings….
“Attention fans of The Office: The show contacted the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and requested two tickets to use as props for an upcoming episode. The Yankees aren’t sure the tickets will actually make it onto television, but the team did rush a pair of tickets to the set. The tickets were for a game against — who else? — the Pawtucket Red Sox.”
bethnyyfan: “Snip snap snip snap snip snap.”
That was a cringe-tastic episode!
I’m not sure what everyone else thought and maybe Phil when you watch it you can post about it, but I wasn’t that impressed with last nights episode of the Office. It had some funny moments but I think there were definetly better ones.
Hey, Phil. Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s all small stuff. I’m sure that you will bounce back and get it done vs. Wakefield. I have a feeling that the Yankee offense is going to crush that old knuckleballer, so maybe you can get some run support for this game. Keep the ball low in the zone, play catch with Molina, rock and fire. I wanna see Uncle Charlie show up for this game and buckle knees all night long, baby! Go get em! GO PHIL! GO YANKEES!!!!!!!
Hey Phil! Where have you been? No posts lately….
Good luck in Boston this weekend! We’re pulling for you because it’s high time they got some perspective – thinkGiants-Patriots!
Boston vs New York. Awesome. Have any of the players said anything about their being a boston jersey buried underneath the away team’s clubhouse at the new stadium? I think it would have been more meaningful(?) if it were done underneath the yankees clubhouse, but whatever. Boston fans aren’t smart.
Anyways, The new episode of The Office can be watched if you missed it last night. Think that site is the official site for NBC shows so no worries about doing anything illegal. Has a couple commercial breaks in it, but they don’t span any more then 30 seconds, so that is good.
I thought it was pretty funny, though not the best.
Oops, guess I forgot to end the link. Oh well, click on pretty much anywhere of that paragraph to watch the episode. Here is is again anyways, Dinner Party
Hey Phil?! You still there? Status check……
-Jeek
Hey you guys had a nice win in Beantown against the Suchs today, good luck in your start Sunday against the most over-hyped pitcher in the MLB, show him whose the real deal.
The office was ridiculously funny this week!!!
Take it to Dice-K on Sunday, Phil.
hey phil, watching you shut down the sox in fenway would be the most satisfying part of the season for me so far, no lie, can’t wait to see you take them down!
Thats too bad about the Royals,.. I’m tellin you they are good this year watch out,…!
Looking forward to seeing the good guys play the BoSox next week. As an Aussie, I am always happy when ESPN Australia show a Yankees game (lucky to be one a fortnight). This week they are showing the Sunday Night Baseball game here – happy about that! Go Yanks! Go Phil – give it to those Sox.
CMW was smoking last night. Unbelievable pitching. Andy gave him a hug after the game and I wish I could have!
Good Luck on Sunday vs the Red Sox i’m looking forward to seeing you pitch. I know you won’t disapoint me.
Good luck tommorow Phil, give em hell!!
Good Luck PHIL!
