Hello again..

29 01 2008

Sorry for the lack of updates the past few days. I was having new flooring put down so the internet was out. I was lucky enough to play in Derek Jeter’s annual Turn 2 Foundation Charity Golf Tournament yesterday morning. I’m a terrible golfer but I had a blast and was able to meet a lot of really cool people. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I’m ecstatic that Santana was traded and you’re still with the Yanks. Best of luck in 2008!

Now we can really look forward to seeing the Young Guns pitch for an entire season together.

The wait is finally over! Now we can all sit back, relax, and watch Phil tear up the AL east instead of the central

You are officially staying, good. There will be a lot of pressure on you to pitch like an ace this season, but don’t let it get to you, take your time and don’t let it get to your head. Take Eli Manning for example- expectations were huge, but it took him a couple years to be a Super Bowl QB… (who ya rooting for?)

for some reason I thought I remembered reading that you were a scratch golfer…. guess not, haha.

Congrats Phil! You’re staying in Pinstripes, exactly where you belong. And like another poster said, the most important thing is that you ignore the added pressure that may fall upon you this year, just continue to be Phil Hughes and we fans will be happy.

Phil-
Although i despise the Mets, their acquiring of Johan Santana made me extremely happy today. It means that there is no one left out there for Hank to make an excuse to trade you for (I don’t think dealing you for Johan would have been a smart move for the Yankees). I don’t know if you’ve read the recent foxsports.com article “Busting Out” but your picture is featured and you are among the top players most likely to break out this year and dominate the majors. I’m so excited to see you finally break camp with the Yankees and pitch your first full year in the majors, after following you in the minors for 2 years. You are the future Phil, you are the guy that’s going to take the baton from Jeter and be the face of the franchise. Looking forward to your future (and maybe even this year!) cy young campaigns.
From your biggest fan,
Josh

Phil, my weekend was great because you are staying with the Yankees! I was against the trade if it meant giving up on you, and thank G-d that we didn’t give you up along with some other good parts for what was essentially 1 year of Santana. Can’t wait to see you this year in the Bronx all year long!

It’s about damn time Santana’s on the move. The twins obviously wanted to move him out of the AL cause the mets deal was garbage compared to You and The Melk Man. Look forward to more dominating perfomances from you.

Phil,
Very happy to be a part of your blog! You pitched, and won, in the first Yankee game my son ever saw!

We live in Tampa, but from NY (I am in the Coast Guard). We will be trying very hard to get your autograph at Legends Field during Spring Training.

I am so glad you will stay a Yankee! The Mets can have Johan!

You are a class act, and I hope you wear the pinstripes for awhile!

We’re so happy down here in México. It’s really good to know that you’ll stay with the Yankees. I had the privilege to watch you on the mound last year, when I went to Tampa during late September. You threw a great game in the last one of the series. I got out of the Tropicana Field convinced that you’d be the future reference, when talking about Yankee pitching. GOOD LUCK, Phil!!!

29 01 2008

Congrats on not getting traded Phil. What are your thoughts on Santana going to the Mets? As long as I’m asking questions (which I have no idea whether you’ll see) what do you think of fans calling you “the messiah”? I feel liked I’d be a little freaked by it. Finally, do you follow prospects in the Yankee system? Guys you played with in the minors, or guys that are getting alot of buzz in the organization, cause I know that alot of fans spend time trolling the web for info on the yank’s next you and I was wondering whether you ever do the same?

Phil-
I’m SO glad you’re staying with the Yanks! You must be relieved now that it’s all over. We’re all looking forward to seeing you progress and are especially glad that you’ll be doing so in pinstripes! Good luck with the 2008 season! We’ll all be cheering you on!

I said this before the Johan trade and will say it again.
I would rather have Phil on the Yanks than him. All you would hear about is the Yankees buying the championship. Now we keep our youth which is the best in the bigs and we will become a World series homegrown team again.

seeing as you are a pitcher and not a hitter you cant expect too much from your golf game, unless youve play consistently. great game to spend with friends and few beers on the course…there were some great people there too with morgan freeman, jordan amongst yankee greats. too bad he couldnt pull in maria sharapova for the event ha ha

best news of the offseason is that phil will remain a yankee. I am glad the common sense of cashmoney prevailed. Here is to a healthy 08 for hughes, joba, and IPK. You guys will lead us to the postseason.

mmaher23

I really wanted the Yankees to acquire Johan Santana, albeit as a Free Agent after the 2008 season. I’m glad the guessing game is over, and happy that you will be in pinstripes for many years to come. You have the chance to be a special Yankee. The way Whitey Ford’s name is revered, so will Phil Hughes name be one day. I can’t wait for the 2008 season to begin, so you can show the Yankee brass, that they made the right decision not bowing down to Minnesota’s demands.

I’m also thankful Johan didn’t end up with the Red Sox. I think Dice-K is going to be better this year, now that he has a year under his belt. He has some amazing stuff. I couldn’t imagine any team wanting to face Beckett, Santana, Matsuzaka, & Bucholz in a series, but then again, I wouldn’t want to be an opponent and face Hughes, Chamberlain, Pettitte, & Kennedy either.

30 01 2008

And some great news in that Santana is going to the Mets!! I wouldn’t mind Santana being a Yankee if we didn’t have to give you or any of our other players up, but looks like they did us a favor by initially not accepting the offer and better judgment came when it was all thought out. And we get to enjoy you in pinstripes, Phil!! Thanks for keeping us updated on the goings on in your life and maybe we’ll see some of that golf tournament on Yankee magazine?! Were you yelling “Fore!” a lot, Phil? LOL

First of all, we are glad to have you back. Secondly, do you know if John Sterling is working on something “hokey” to say when you strike out to add to his collection: Georgie juiced one, jeterian, giambini, Robbie Cano- don’t you know…etc, etc, etc?

Phil,

Just wanna say that when I heard the Santana went to the Mets, I said a little prayer. He was the only player in baseball that they could have justified trading you for and now he is accounted for. I can’t wait for many summers and falls of watching you win 15-20. BTW, i think you owe us a no-no:) lemme know when you will be throwing said game so i can get tickets in advance! LOL.

I’m a huge proponent of home grown players and I’m so excited to see the future of the Yankees so bright and close to becoming the now of the Yankees!

Here’s to the new memories!

Phil, So glad that you’ll remain in pinstripes. All of us Yankee fans in Charlotte

Hey Phil.

Thats pretty cool that you got to play in Jeter’s golf tournament. You golf with Don Zimmer and Michael Jordan? ha. With the news of Santana going to the Mets..probably makes most Yankee fans ecstatic knowing you will be staying in Yankees pinstripes. I bet you never thought a day would come where people wanted you over the most dominant pitcher in baseball over the past few years. Just glad your staying.

Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Billy Wagner, etc… Who’s buying a team now? Yeah, you traded for Johan, but how much do you think it’s going to cost to retain him?

The Yanks made the right decision standing pat on this one.

The weird thing is, I don’t think the Johan Santana drama is over yet! I have a strange feeling contract talks are with the Mets going to fall apart. Also, after the Twins “stole” Delmon Young from Tampa Bay, the fans in Minny must be reeling over their deal with the Mets.

If things do fall apart, after seeing what the Mets gave to land him, the Yankees better not even think of including you in a deal for him.

We will know more by Friday!

Think about it.

30 01 2008
yanksgal07

Hey there Phil …

I can hear that sigh of relief all the way up here in NY.

This is certainly special keeping the kids for a change. A big turnaround from the old Yankee way…not to say it hasn’t worked many times…but…it’s just so much fun watching the kiddie corps grow from within. Following step by step as they progress to the big show. I think the recent intense fan interest in the minors has a lot to do with your emergence as well as Joba, IPK, Shelley, Melky and Cano. It’s great to know that their are many more just waiting their turn and now realizing they just might get it instead of being traded away like in the past. The future of the Yankees is looking very bright indeed.

It’s great to keep the Trinity in tack and hopefully everyone will find out why the Yankees thought these three were so special …

A great season to you and all the Yankees. I can’t wait to hear those magical words …”Play Ball”

Go Yankees 2008

Dude, I wanna party with you. Me, you, ipk and joba play 36 holes and have a few drinks at the turn

Hi Phil! This is my first time leaving a comment on your site. It’s really cool that you do this. I wish more Yankee players did stuff like this. I love hearing personal stuff about you and I think it’s really cool that you want to take time to connect with your fans. We are glad you aren’t getting shipped off to Minnesota! Good luck on your golf game and I hope to meet you one day.

It’s a great day With Santana goin to the National League and you stayin put the the Yanks. with you being the centerpiece of this young rotation it seems like will have a great staff when you go to the new Yankee Stadium. Good luck this season!

I’m glad you can now fully concentrate on pitching without the Santana trade distractions. and I’m glad that you, Melky and Kennedy will remain as Yankees. I think that the Yanks have an amazing core of talent on the verge of bursting out and dominating baseball. I also get the feeling that you’re ready to pitch a full season, but how many innings do you think they will realistically allow you to pitch this season?

Phil, I’ve been a Yankee fan for 35 years and your weblog is one of the coolest things I’ve seen a player do outside the Stadium to connect with fans. If Phil Rizzuto had a weblog in his day, maybe his would have been holycow.wordpress.com. Can you imagine the contests the Big Bam might have had? (probably R-rated). Reggie would probably have had a contest to say what, besides a candy bar, could be named after him. Winner gets his photo. But without a doubt I think the king of the weblogs would have been Yogi. Just put him in front of a keyboard and let him go. I picture him writing, “If you have anything you’d like to ask me, please don’t because I’ll just answer it.”

I know how the new flooring thing goes. I was visiting my parents while on break from school and they are in the process of putting in new floors (themselves) so the entire house is a mess. Glad you had fun at the golf tournament!

Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 news has introductions, but not have news each time.
But all of us know that have charitable activities about Posada and Torre.

ABREU has already come to Taiwan, but only stayed for the night.
Will leave Taiwan soon tomorrow.

Wang has already known this before going abroad, but he had already planned to gone to U.S.A.Can not entertain him, Wang feel very regrettable .
So Wang asks family and teacher to entertain ABREU for him
Wang’s father will meet with ABREU tomorrow. Hope to make him experience the enthusiasm of Taiwan.

It’s a pity ABREU cannot keep a bit longer.A lot of delicious food is in Taiwan, and very cheap.

” cordial ” It is a theme of ABREU on the newspaper.
Really hope I can welcome him at the airport too.

Salami Stackers, baby! This makes a lot, so invite a lot of people over. First you’ll need 4# genoa salami. Then mix 1 jar chopped green olives, 4 softened blocks of cream cheese, 2 T. paprika and 1-1/2 t. ground mustard. Layer the mixture between slices of salami 7 high. Chill 1-2 hours, then cut into wedges. Stab with toothpick through half an olive. YUMMY!
